STUART HALL AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN CHESHIRE
Renowned ex-BBC broadcaster Stuart Hall has been handed an additional prison sentence of two years and six months following his conviction for multiple counts of indecent assault against a young girl.The 84-year-old, who resides in Wilmslow, Cheshire, will commence this extended sentence after serving a previous 30-month term related to similar criminal offenses.
Hall previously admitted to the act of indecently assaulting a girl when she was only 13 years old.
His admission came amid a trial in which he was found guilty of one specific charge by a majority verdict at Preston Crown Court.
Despite this conviction, he was acquitted of 15 counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault, showcasing the complexity and nuance of the case.
The charge that Hall admitted centered on an incident that took place during a dinner party, where he clandestinely entered the victim’s bedroom and subjected her to assault.
This particular act was described by the presiding judge, Mr.
Justice Turner, as having elements of grooming, indicating a calculated manipulation of the young girl.
During the sentencing hearing, Mr.
Justice Turner emphasized the breach of trust involved in the case.
He described Hall’s behavior as driven by “a sense of arrogance and immunity,” and characterized his actions as exhibiting “vile bravado and horrible betrayal.” The judge also pointed out that Hall displayed a concerning lack of honesty and remorse for his crimes, notably criticizing him for failing to admit his guilt when previously convicted of other offenses in 2013.
Throughout the court proceedings, Hall remained composed, listening to the sentence through headphones.
In stark contrast, the victim, present at the hearing, was visibly distressed, wiping tears from her face with a handkerchief as the details of her abuse were recounted.
This case is part of a broader pattern of abuse linked to Hall, who faced accusations of molesting two girls between the years 1976 and 1981.
Prior to this recent sentencing, he was already serving a 30-month jail sentence after admitting to the indecent assault of thirteen other girls, among whom was a nine-year-old child.
His original sentence of 15 months, imposed for offenses that occurred from 1967 to 1985, was later doubled upon appeal.
Adding to the gravity of the case, the Chief Crown Prosecutor for the North West, Nazir Afzal, publicly acknowledged that the convictions of Stuart Hall were only possible because of the bravery of his victims.
He expressed gratitude to those who came forward, ensuring that Hall was held accountable for his lifelong pattern of abuse and exploitation.
