GAVIN COLLINS JAILED IN CHESHIRE FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND REPEATED OFFENSES
Gavin Collins, a known sex offender residing in Cheshire, has been sentenced to a significant prison term after a series of disturbing discoveries linked to his online activities. The 40-year-old appeared before Chester Crown Court on Wednesday, 6 November, where he received a sentence of 30 months behind bars for his involvement in possessing and creating indecent images of children, as well as breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
The case against Collins was initiated on Tuesday, 16 April, when officers from the Cheshire Sex Offenders Management Unit conducted a routine visit to his residence on Middlewich Road, Northwich.
This visit was part of standard procedures aimed at monitoring registered sex offenders to prevent further offenses and ensure compliance with legal restrictions.
During their visit, the officers employed specialized risk management software on Collins' electronic devices to scan for keywords and content that could indicate ongoing or recent offending behavior.
Alarmingly, the software flagged several searches and posts that raised serious concerns about Collins' activities.
These alerts suggested that he had been reoffending, prompting immediate action.
Collins was swiftly arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children, and the devices seized from his home were subjected to forensic analysis.
The examination revealed a disturbing collection of 92 indecent images, including 91 classified as Category C and one as Category A, the most severe classification indicating explicit and potentially most harmful content.
Further investigation uncovered that Collins had violated the terms of his SHPO by using a messaging application that automatically deletes messages and images after 14 days.
This breach indicated an attempt to conceal his activities and evade detection, underscoring the ongoing risk he posed to the community.
Faced with overwhelming evidence, Collins chose to plead guilty to all charges brought against him.
Following his sentencing, Detective Sergeant Keith Campbell emphasized the danger Collins represents.
He stated, “Collins has repeatedly demonstrated the high risk he poses to the local community, and he shows a complete lack of remorse.
He thought he could go on to offend without disruption, but thankfully our officers were able to intervene and put him behind bars.
The work of Cheshire Constabulary’s Sex Offenders Management Unit is paramount to ensuring sexual predators like Collins face the consequences of their heinous and despicable crimes.
It is important to note that these crimes are not victimless, and I hope this result shows we remain steadfast in pursuing and bringing to justice those who engage in online child sexual exploitation and play a part in the sexual abuse of children in Cheshire and beyond.”
