A man who sexually assaulted a child in Warrington for several years has been jailed.Andrew Bate, aged 41, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, 19 July, where he received a 21-year custodial sentence along with an additional five years on extended licence.
Residing on Libson Close in Warrington, Bate was previously convicted of 16 sexual crimes committed against a minor.
These charges encompassed rape, sexual assault, engaging in sexual acts with a child, and indecent touching.
During the court proceedings, the young victim detailed how the abuse gradually intensified over time, beginning with being made to watch pornographic videos at just eight years old.
Over the following six years, Bate’s misconduct worsened, with him raping and sexually assaulting the child multiple times.
The victim explained they tried to evade the abuse by pretending to sleep, but despite their efforts, the assaults persisted.
The misconduct came to public attention only after the victim bravely reported it to Cheshire Police in January 2023.
Subsequently, Warrington detectives arrested Bate.
During interrogation, he denied all charges.
Nevertheless, Bate was found guilty of all 16 offences after a trial that ended at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, 21 May.
