WAYNE SCARRATT AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ATTACK IN WORCESTERSHIRE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Wayne Scarratt, a 28-year-old man from Malvern, Worcestershire, was convicted of a brutal sexual assault that took place in Chasewater Country Park, near Burntwood, last August.The incident involved the rape of a young girl, an attack that left her physically injured and emotionally traumatized.
According to reports, the assault occurred in the secluded setting of Chasewater Country Park, a popular outdoor area in Worcestershire known for its natural beauty and recreational activities.
During the attack, Scarratt forcibly took the victim’s mobile phone, bank card, and bus pass, effectively leaving her stranded and vulnerable in the aftermath of the assault.
The young girl sustained serious injuries, including a fractured right cheek and collarbone, along with bruising to her right eye, face, and foot.
Despite her injuries, she managed to summon help by flagging down a passing cyclist, who then promptly reported the incident to the police.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly to the scene and managed to locate Scarratt hiding in a hedgerow in Malvern, Worcestershire, shortly after the attack.
His arrest marked the beginning of a lengthy investigation that culminated in his conviction.
On May 25, this year, a jury unanimously found Scarratt guilty of multiple charges, including rape and other sexual offences.
Following the trial, Scarratt was brought before Stafford Crown Court, where he faced sentencing on Monday, September 4.
The court sentenced him to a total of 19 years in prison for his crimes, which included rape, assault by penetration, assault, theft, and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The judge also stipulated that Scarratt must serve a minimum of 12 and a half years before being eligible for parole.
Detective Constable Dan Hopkins of Staffordshire Police expressed his commendation for the bravery of the young survivor, stating, “I’d like to commend the survivor for her immense bravery throughout this entire investigation.
I hope this sentence provides some sort of comfort for her and her family and it serves as an example to anyone who is a survivor that we are committed to securing justice.” This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring perpetrators of sexual violence to justice and underscores the importance of supporting victims through the legal process.
