UMAR DAWOOD FROM WORCESTERSHIRE JAILED FOR GROOMING BOY ONLINE
Umar Dawood, a man with ties to Worcestershire, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of serious crimes involving the grooming of a young boy through online communications.Dawood, who resides on Evesham Road in Redditch, previously held roles that involved working closely with children, including volunteering at a local children’s charity and serving as an imam within the community.
According to West Mercia Police, Dawood, aged 36, pleaded guilty to three separate charges during an earlier court hearing.
The charges included causing a boy under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, attempting to communicate sexually with a child as an adult, and possessing extreme pornography.
His guilty pleas led to a sentencing at Worcester Crown Court, where he received a prison term of three years.
In addition to his custodial sentence, Dawood was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his activities and prevent further offenses.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender, a legal requirement intended to monitor his activities and ensure public safety.
His sentencing took place on June 10, and he was subsequently jailed for his crimes.
The court’s decision reflects the severity of his actions and the breach of trust involved, given his previous roles within the community.
Det Sgt Pete Wheeler, a member of West Mercia Police’s child sexual exploitation team, commented on the case, emphasizing the importance of the conviction.
He stated, “Dawood previously held a position of trust and was a local imam teaching children within the local community.
He also volunteered with a local children’s charity.
The outcome of this investigation goes some way to ensuring that he is not able to work with children in the future, and we hope will provide some reassurance that this offending has attracted a custodial sentence.”
