DANIEL BARRETT AND SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENSES IN WORCESTERSHIRE
A man identified as Daniel Barrett has been convicted of disturbing and criminal behaviors involving the exploitation and voyeurism of minors in Worcestershire. The 42-year-old resident of Bewdley Street, Evesham, carried out a series of alarming acts that have left the community and the families affected deeply distressed.
Barrett engaged in secretive filming of teenagers engaged in sexual activities and took explicit photographs of young girls, actions that exhibit a gross violation of privacy and safety.
His illegal activities extended over several years, and he was caught and prosecuted after a thorough investigation.
His sadistic behaviors culminated in his being sentenced to 33 months in prison during a court hearing held at Worcester Crown Court on a recent Monday.
The court proceedings revealed that Barrett climbed onto a flat roof to secretly record a teenage couple involved in sexual acts.
Additionally, he performed a sexual act himself in a tent in full view of a young girl present at the time.
This incredibly disturbing incident involved direct eye contact between Barrett and the young girl, lasting a total of five minutes, leaving an indelible scar on the witnesses involved.
One of the victims, a young girl, was captured in photographs showing her topless, with images discovered on Barrett's computer.
Furthermore, investigators uncovered a video of an adult girl engaging in sexual activity with her boyfriend—evidence that underscored the extent of Barrett’s preoccupations.
His illegal pursuits were brought to light after his brother reported the matter to authorities in 2020.
During the investigation, law enforcement officials seized electronic devices, including an iPhone and a computer.
Analysis of these devices unearthed a disturbing collection of media, including videos of minors engaged in sexual acts and explicit photographs, all of which compounded the seriousness of Barrett’s offenses.
Prosecutor Jonathan Veasey-Pugh explained that the victims included children as young as nine or ten up to those who were around sixteen at the time of the offenses.
The voyeurism crimes occurred over two distinct periods—first between February 23, 2006, and February 22, 2009, and later from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2017.
Barrett admitted to four counts of voyeurism involving three victims and also took responsibility for one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child during his first day in court, opting to enter a late plea that avoided the necessity for victim testimony.
The impact of Barrett’s actions on the victims was profoundly distressing.
One girl’s mother, upon discovering that her daughter had been secretly filmed during an intimate moment, described feeling physically ill to the point of vomiting.
Another victim, who provided a statement, expressed suffering from anxiety, stress, and suicidal thoughts as a result of the traumatic revelations.
The court also heard about the emotional toll on family members.
The prosecutor noted that Barrett's own mother made stark remarks about her son’s behavior, though specific words were not disclosed publicly.
Judge Nicholas Cole emphasized the severity of the case, highlighting the horror and disgust experienced by the victims and their families.
To prevent further offenses, the court issued a restraining order to bar Barrett from contacting the victims and imposed a sexual harm prevention order that restricts his access to children and limits his use of the internet and electronic devices for an indefinite period.
He is also required to register as a sex offender and notify authorities of his whereabouts indefinitely.
In addition, the court ordered the forfeiture and destruction of Barrett’s electronic devices containing the illegal material.
His sentence involves serving half of his term in custody and the remainder on license within the community, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing need for supervision and restrictions to protect the public.
