MATTHEW JENKINS SENTENCED IN WORCESTERSHIRE FOR ONLINE CHILD SEX OFFENSES
A man identified as Matthew Jenkins has been sentenced to four years in prison following his conviction for engaging in illegal online activities involving minors. The incident took place in Worcestershire, where Jenkins, aged 35 and residing on Flaxley Close in Redditch, appeared before Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday, 15 October.
During the hearing, Jenkins pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to his inappropriate online conduct.
Specifically, Jenkins was convicted of attempting to communicate sexually with a child via the internet.
He also faced charges for trying to persuade a girl aged between 13 and 15 to view explicit images depicting sexual acts.
Additionally, he was found guilty of attempting to incite a girl within the same age range to engage in sexual activity.
The court sentenced Jenkins to four years for the most serious offence involving incitement, while the other two charges resulted in concurrent sentences of 18 months each, effectively serving alongside the primary sentence.
Jenkins, who has previously been known by the alias Marcus Benjamin Pearson, has been placed on the sex offenders register and is subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
This order aims to restrict his activities and monitor his behavior to prevent further offenses.
The investigation revealed that Jenkins had engaged in sexual communication with a profile believed to belong to a 13-year-old child online.
During these interactions, he sent videos of himself masturbating and encouraged the minor to do the same.
Such actions highlight the severity of his misconduct and the danger posed to minors in online environments.
The police, specifically the West Mercia Police’s Online Child Sexual Exploitation Team (OCSET), arrested Jenkins in May 2022 at his residence in Redditch.
Authorities conducted a thorough search of his home, during which photographs were taken that matched the images exchanged during the online chats.
Clothing found at the scene also corresponded with the photographs sent by Jenkins, providing further evidence of his involvement in the offenses.
Jenkins’s case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predators operating in digital spaces.
His sentencing serves as a reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who engage in such criminal activities.
