MICHAEL MCGEE FROM KENT SENTENCED TO 6 YEARS AND 8 MONTHS FOR SEX OFFENCE AND SHPO BREACH IN RAMSGATE
In a significant case uncovered by the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU), a 38-year-old man from Kent has been handed a lengthy prison sentence following his involvement in a serious sex offence and violations of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).Michael McGee, whose residence is listed as King Street, Ramsgate, Kent, was brought before Reading Crown Court on Thursday, March 7th, where he received a custodial sentence of six years and eight months.
The court's decision came after McGee pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to his conduct.
Specifically, McGee admitted to one count of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence.
The investigation revealed that between November and December of the previous year, he engaged in online communications with an individual he believed to be a 12-year-old girl.
During these exchanges, he sent sexually explicit messages and made arrangements to meet her in person, actions that underscore the severity of his intentions.
In addition to these offences, McGee was found to have violated the conditions of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The breach involved him factory resetting one of his electronic devices, an act that was intended to circumvent monitoring or restrictions imposed by the order.
Such breaches are taken very seriously by law enforcement authorities.
Detective Sergeant Lisa Betchley of SEROCU emphasized the gravity of the case, stating, "SEROCU takes sexual offending extremely seriously." She further explained that McGee had contacted and planned to meet someone he believed to be underage, which, although no children were physically endangered in this instance, demonstrated clear malicious intent.
Given McGee’s history of offending and the potential risk he posed, he was subject to the SHPO, which imposed specific conditions designed to prevent further harm.
His breach of these conditions was a serious violation, and the court responded with a substantial sentence to reflect the gravity of his actions and the breach of trust involved.
