IAN HAMILTON SENTENCED TO 42 YEARS FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE IN KENT AND DOVER
A man identified as Ian Hamilton has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of 42 years and one month after being found guilty of multiple heinous sexual offenses committed across the Kent region, including Dover and Canterbury. The case against Hamilton, aged 63, was built on a comprehensive investigation that uncovered a disturbing pattern of violence and sexual assault spanning over two decades.
Hamilton's criminal activities first came under scrutiny when the Kent Police Cold Case Investigation Team revisited an incident from 1988 involving an attack on a young girl in the village of Hersden.
This re-examination of old case files eventually linked him to a 1992 report concerning abuse inflicted on a child in Dover during the mid-1980s.
The investigation then expanded to include interviews with individuals who had come into contact with Hamilton during that period, revealing a disturbing history of victimization.
As the detectives delved deeper, they identified a total of nine women who had suffered sexual offenses at Hamilton’s hands between 1977 and 2000.
Additionally, they uncovered evidence of a serious assault on a man in 1991, also perpetrated by Hamilton.
The investigation ultimately encompassed over 50 previously unreported offenses, highlighting the extent of his criminal conduct.
Hamilton was arrested at his residence in Snodland in March 2024.
During the search, authorities discovered a computer containing more than 1,500 indecent images, further implicating him in the commission of sexual crimes.
His trial took place at the Inner London Crown Court, where a jury convicted him on all 59 charges, which included rape, indecent assault, and causing grievous bodily harm.
Hamilton had initially admitted to possessing indecent images at the start of the proceedings.
On Friday, December 13, 2024, His Honour Judge Silas Reid sentenced Hamilton to a total of 42 years and one month behind bars.
In his remarks, the judge described Hamilton as a 'cunning and sadistic' individual and referred to him as a 'monster of the night,' emphasizing the severity and depravity of his actions.
The lengthy sentence reflects the gravity of his crimes and the impact on his numerous victims across Kent, Dover, and Canterbury.
