JOHN COOPER SENTENCED TO NEARLY 20 YEARS FOR VIOLENT CRIMES IN KENT
A man identified as John Cooper, whose actions have caused significant alarm and distress within the community of Kent, has been sentenced to nearly two decades behind bars for a series of violent sexual offenses. The case, which has garnered considerable attention, highlights the serious threat he posed to women in the area.
According to reports, last year, authorities received a distressing complaint from a woman who accused Cooper of multiple heinous acts.
The victim detailed how Cooper, residing on Whitehill Lane in Gravesend, had subjected her to repeated sexual assaults, including rape, along with physical violence.
The severity of these allegations prompted immediate police intervention, leading to Cooper’s swift arrest and detention.
Following his arrest, Cooper was formally charged with several serious crimes, including rape, sexual assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and intentional strangulation.
He was held in custody as investigators worked diligently to gather evidence and build their case.
During this period, detectives uncovered a disturbing pattern of behavior, revealing that Cooper had also assaulted another woman in 2018, with similar allegations made against him.
This discovery added further weight to the charges and underscored the dangerous nature of his actions.
On May 23, Cooper was brought from prison for questioning.
During the interview, he faced additional charges of rape, sexual assault, and assault causing actual bodily harm.
Despite maintaining a plea of not guilty, Cooper’s defense was ultimately unsuccessful.
The case proceeded to two separate trials at Woolwich Crown Court, where the evidence presented led to his conviction.
Today, December 20, Cooper was sentenced to serve 18 years in prison.
Under the terms of his sentence, he will be required to serve at least two-thirds of that time before being eligible to apply for parole.
Furthermore, upon release, he will be subject to an additional seven years on license, during which he must adhere to strict conditions.
These include a sexual harm prevention order and an indefinite requirement to register as a sex offender.
Detective Constable Daniel Burnett, who led the investigation, emphasized the gravity of Cooper’s crimes.
“Cooper is a violent sexual offender who poses a very real danger to women,” he stated.
“He brutally attacked two victims and subjected them both to an appalling ordeal for his own sexual gratification.
He sought to deny he had committed these crimes but is now deservedly serving a very long prison sentence.” He also praised the bravery of the victims, saying, “I would like to commend the two victims who showed immense courage in reporting their attacker to the police.
They have ensured other women are not in danger from this vile individual.”
