LEWIS GREEN'S HORRIFIC CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN KENT LEAD TO LENGTHIER PRISON SENTENCE
In May 2022, a disturbing case involving Lewis Green, a 20-year-old man from Kent, drew significant attention after he was convicted of multiple child sex offences.Green's actions included engaging in highly inappropriate and sexualized conversations with a young victim, aged between 13 and 15, through social media platforms.
During these exchanges, Green encouraged the child to send explicit photographs and videos, promising financial incentives in return.
When the victim ceased sending such material, Green resorted to threats, warning that he would share the images with the victim’s family, thereby exerting coercive pressure and causing considerable emotional distress.
In addition to these online predations, Green was involved in a separate, troubling incident where he offered money to an unidentified individual in exchange for photographs and videos of that person’s children.
This act further underscored the extent of Green’s disturbing behavior and his willingness to exploit children for sexual gratification.
Authorities also uncovered a significant collection of illegal material in Green’s possession.
He was found to possess a total of 1,662 indecent images of children, along with 278 indecent video clips depicting minors.
These materials are considered highly illegal and indicative of his ongoing engagement with child exploitation.
Green’s criminal activities culminated in a court hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on March 4, 2022.
During this session, he was sentenced to a total of 2 years and 2 months in prison for his various offences, which included the sexual exploitation of a child, possession of indecent images and videos, and the distribution of such illicit material.
The severity of his crimes prompted the Solicitor General, Alex Chalk QC MP, to intervene.
He referred Green’s original sentence to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme, arguing that the punishment was insufficient given the gravity of the offences.
Following a review, the Court of Appeal agreed with the Solicitor General’s assessment.
On May 20, the court determined that Green’s initial sentence was indeed unduly lenient and subsequently increased it to 3 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
This decision reflects the judiciary’s recognition of the seriousness of Green’s crimes and the importance of delivering a more appropriate punishment for his actions in Kent.
