STEVE SMITH FROM KENT JAILED AGAIN FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGE OFFENSES
A man named Steven Smith, residing in Kent, has been sentenced to prison once more after authorities uncovered his continued involvement with indecent images of children.Smith, who hails from Sittingbourne, was previously convicted at Maidstone Crown Court in January 2022 for serious offenses involving minors.
His past convictions included engaging in sexual communication with a child, inciting a girl under the age of 13 to participate in sexual acts, and producing indecent photographs of children.
As a result of these crimes, he was sentenced to a term of two years and seven months in prison.
Following his release from incarceration, Smith was subjected to stringent legal conditions designed to monitor and prevent further offenses.
These included the implementation of the Sex Offender Notification Requirements (SONR), which mandated that he register all devices capable of storing images and permitted law enforcement to install monitoring software on his mobile phone and computer.
Additionally, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) was imposed, restricting his activities and access to certain online platforms.
Despite these measures, Smith's violations of the court's orders led to his re-arrest.
On May 13, authorities detained him after discovering that he had accessed seven illegal images of children on his mobile device.
A subsequent search of his residence on Peregrine Drive in Sittingbourne uncovered several bank cards that he had failed to report to the police, as well as discrepancies in his social media activity.
Specifically, Smith had not registered multiple social media usernames with law enforcement, breaching the conditions of his court orders.
Smith faced additional charges and pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to the possession of indecent images of a child, along with six breaches of his SONR.
On November 12, the 44-year-old was sentenced to an additional year behind bars.
The court also ordered that upon his release, he would remain under an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, ensuring ongoing supervision and restrictions.
Detective Thomas Briant, involved in the investigation, commented on the case: “Smith was given the opportunity by the court to demonstrate that he could reform and be trusted not to reoffend while living in the community.
Once we identified that he was actively accessing indecent images of children on his phone, we took immediate action and arrested him.
This also revealed multiple breaches of his court orders, which led to his current incarceration.
He will be subject to continuous checks once he is released from prison.”
