STEVE JOHNSON CAUGHT IN KENT TRYING TO MEET 14-YEAR-OLD AT KFC AND FAINTS AT POLICE STATION
In a disturbing case that unfolded in Kent, teaching assistant Steven Johnson found himself at the center of a serious criminal investigation after attempting to meet a minor at a local fast food outlet. The incident was captured as part of Channel 4's investigative documentary series, Undercover Police: Hunting Paedophiles, which aims to expose individuals seeking to engage in illegal activities with minors.
Johnson was actively messaging an undercover police officer who was posing as a 14-year-old boy.
During their exchanges, Johnson made inappropriate and explicit comments, asking the officer, "You looking for fun?".
The undercover officer responded cautiously, indicating the age of the supposed minor, to which Johnson replied, "Yeah I am but I’m 14, if I’m too young for you that’s chill." Despite knowing the age of the person he was communicating with, Johnson continued to send messages that suggested he was interested in engaging in sexual activities.
He wrote explicitly, "We can find quiet place where no one about just w**k and suck.".
The undercover officer indicated that the minor needed to be discreet because of his age, prompting Johnson to ask where they could meet.
The officer suggested the KFC restaurant in Kent, and Johnson agreed to the plan.
Following this, police officers tracked Johnson to the fast food outlet.
They confronted him in his vehicle, instructing him to exit the car.
As officers moved to arrest him, Johnson became visibly distressed and pleaded, "I can’t do this.".
The officers urged him to remain calm, but the situation escalated when Johnson suddenly fainted and collapsed onto the ground at the police station.
During questioning, Johnson was seen holding his head in his hands and sobbing.
When asked about his perception of the age of the person he had been chatting with, Johnson claimed he believed the individual was 18 years old.
He stated, "I assumed he was 18." When pressed further about why he thought the minor was 18 despite being told he was 14, Johnson responded uncertainly, "Maybe… I don’t know." Ultimately, Steven Johnson pleaded guilty to charges of arranging a child sex offence and attempted sexual communication with a minor.
His actions and subsequent arrest led to a sentencing of two and a half years in prison, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the efforts of law enforcement to protect vulnerable minors from predatory behavior in Kent.
