JANIEL VERAINER APPEARS IN COURT DRESSED AS AN ELF IN MAIDSTONE
A sex offender, Janiel Verainer, made a court appearance just days before Christmas while dressed as an elf.Verainer was permitted to sit beside a helper in the public gallery instead of in the dock at Maidstone Crown Court.
The 60-year-old was dressed in a festive red and green costume, complemented by a Woollen cardigan adorned with a Santa Claus badge and an elf-like hat.
As Verainer, who was addressed as 'she' throughout the 15-minute hearing, entered the courtroom alongside a helper, bells jingled from the costume.
Observers noted Verainer, who was thumb-sucking during the proceedings, was dressed in a manner reminiscent of a child.
The court heard that Verainer, of High Street, Chatham, admitted breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Judge Philip St-John Stevens was informed that between December 18, 2019, and January 31 of this year, Verainer approached two children.
It was further explained that the incidents—during which Verainer kissed the girls on the lips—violated the order issued at Canterbury Crown Court in November 2016, which mandated Verainer to stay away from children.
Details of these breaches were not disclosed before the judge adjourned sentencing until February 25 next year, pending a probation report.
A psychiatric report has already been completed.
Three other charges of failing to comply with the SHPO will remain on file.
During an earlier hearing, in which Verainer appeared with pigtails and was sucking a dummy, she denied the charges.
In November 2016, Verainer was reprimanded by a judge after sitting in the dock during a case while hugging a large doll.
Judge Adele Williams told defence barrister Paul Hogben that such behavior was “totally inappropriate,” emphasizing that Verainer would not be permitted to do so for the remainder of the hearing.
At that time, Verainer, who requested to be called Jorven Seren and claimed to identify as a five-year-old girl, was sentenced to 15 months in prison for kissing a girl outside a cafe in Thanet.
While living on Grotto Hill in Margate, authorities discovered indecent images on Verainer’s phone.
Psychiatrists at the time concluded that the defendant had personality issues but did not diagnose any mental health disorders.
