DAVID HALEY SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL IMAGE OFFENSES IN KENT
David Haley, a resident of Marden in Kent, has been sentenced to four years in prison following his conviction on multiple serious charges related to the possession and distribution of illegal and extreme pornographic images involving children.Haley’s criminal history includes a previous conviction in 2015 for sexual assault and related offenses involving indecent images of minors, for which he was sentenced to more than six years imprisonment.
Upon his release from prison, authorities imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) aimed at curbing his access to any devices capable of accessing the internet.
This order required Haley to allow police or authorized staff to inspect any devices he owned upon request, as part of ongoing measures to monitor and reduce his risk of reoffending.
Despite these restrictions, investigations reveal that Haley continued to access harmful internet content.
On September 5 of the previous year, police officers conducted an unannounced search of Haley’s residence, located in Ballard Close, Marden.
During this search, they examined his phone and uncovered troubling evidence: the 40-year-old had been actively accessing hundreds of illegal images, many depicting child sexual abuse.
Further analysis revealed that Haley used the online alias 'Amy', a pseudonym through which he communicated with other users regarding the abuse and exploitation of children.
Investigators discovered that Haley employed various messaging apps to send and receive images and messages related to child abuse.
Notably, he utilized settings that allowed messages and images to be deleted automatically after viewing, making detection more difficult.
The police charged him with three counts of making indecent images of children and two counts of possessing extreme pornographic images.
Additionally, Haley faced charges for breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order and for failing to comply with notification requirements associated with his registration as a sex offender.
At Maidstone Crown Court, Haley pleaded guilty to all charges.
He was subsequently sentenced on October 20 to four years of imprisonment.
The court also imposed an extended license period of four additional years, meaning he will remain under supervision beyond his prison term.
Moreover, Haley will be required to remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
The sentencing underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect vulnerable individuals from sexual harm.
Detective Lee Sinden, of the Offender Management Unit, stated: “Haley had been the subject of strict measures designed to reduce the risk of him reoffending.
He has been unable to adhere to these restrictions and has demonstrated a clear determination to access illegal and harmful images, many of which include the horrific abuse of children.
In passing this extended sentence, the judge recognized that Haley poses a serious threat to children.
Sexual Harm Prevention Orders are meant to safeguard minors, and as this case clearly illustrates, authorities will pursue those who violate these orders, holding them accountable for their actions and ensuring they face the full consequences under the law."
