ROBERT BASTERFIELD PERTH SEX OFFENDER SHAMES PRISON OFFICERS WITH INDECENT IMAGES AT EDINBURGH ROAD JAIL
In August 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded within the confines of Perth's Edinburgh Road jail involving Robert Basterfield, a known sex offender and serial pest. The 47-year-old, who resides on Feus Road, was found to have committed a shocking act of misconduct by showing two female prison officers explicit drawings, which included a penis and a depiction of a sexual act.
This incident has added to his troubling criminal history and has prompted further legal proceedings.
At the time of the offense, Basterfield was already serving a 25-month prison sentence, a consequence of a series of previous misconducts.
His actions at the Perth prison occurred between November 28 and December 14, 2018, during which he intentionally exposed the officers to sexually explicit images.
Additionally, he showed them a hand-drawn illustration of male and female genitalia, with the name of one of their female colleagues written next to the drawings, further demonstrating his reckless and provocative behavior.
It is noteworthy that Basterfield was under a bail order issued by the Perth court on May 1, 2018, at the time of the incident.
The background and circumstances surrounding this latest misconduct are scheduled to be detailed in court reports next month, as the legal process continues.
Earlier in the year, Basterfield was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after a series of incidents involving the harassment and intimidation of women.
His criminal record includes a 21-month jail sentence for sending a graphic image of himself to a woman who had previously worked with individuals experiencing social exclusion.
This act was part of a pattern of behavior that caused significant fear, alarm, and distress among his victims.
Furthermore, Basterfield was subjected to a 10-year sexual offences prevention order, which aimed to restrict his contact with certain individuals, and an 18-month non-harassment order that prohibited him from approaching or communicating with a woman associated with a group he previously attended.
His misconduct also included sending her a vulgar message accompanied by an explicit image of his erect penis, with the caption: “So f***ing hard right now.” In April 2018, Basterfield was also convicted of stalking a young woman in Perth city center, resulting in an additional four-month jail term to be served consecutively.
Since October 15, 2018, he has been remanded in Perth jail, awaiting further legal action.
His ongoing behavior underscores the serious concerns surrounding his conduct and the measures taken by authorities to prevent further harm.
