DONALD MCKENZIE'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN PERTH: NEW TECH RESTRICTIONS AND COURT ORDERS REVEALED
In a series of recent court proceedings, Donald McKenzie, a convicted sex offender from Perth, has faced increasingly stringent restrictions aimed at safeguarding children from his predatory behavior.The latest developments come after years of legal battles and multiple breaches of previous court orders, highlighting the ongoing concern about his potential threat to minors.
Back in December 2009, McKenzie, then aged 56, was subjected to one of the most restrictive Sexual Offences Prevention Orders (SOPO) ever issued in Scotland.
The court, presided over by Sheriff Lindsay Foulis, imposed a 25-year order that prohibited him from being alone with any child under the age of 16.
This order was designed to prevent any opportunity for him to engage in further abuse, especially considering his history of downloading and possessing child abuse images.
At that time, McKenzie was also sentenced to 20 months in prison after admitting to downloading images of child abuse at his residence in Douglas Court, South Methven Street, Perth.
The court was informed that he had collected a staggering 575 images and videos depicting boys aged from one to 16 being subjected to abuse.
The severity of his offenses was underscored by the nature of the material, which was described as being at the more serious end of the abuse spectrum.
Sheriff Foulis emphasized the danger McKenzie posed, stating, “The accused recognises he constitutes a risk to children,” and expressed concern for the protection of the public, especially young males under 16.
Following his release from prison, McKenzie was placed under strict supervision for a period of 40 months.
Despite these measures, police investigations revealed that he continued to pose a significant risk.
On August 14, 2009, police officers executed a search warrant at his Perth flat, where McKenzie admitted to possessing indecent material on his computer.
This material was described as being highly serious, and the images found were at the most severe category of abuse.
Additionally, police discovered that McKenzie had been downloading such content for several years, with reports indicating he had been accessing these images once or twice weekly.
Further breaches of court orders occurred in June 2016, when police conducted a random check of McKenzie’s laptop.
During this search, officers found 37 indecent images of children, including eight classified as the most serious category.
The investigation also uncovered internet search terms such as “nude boys,” which raised further concerns about his ongoing interest in child exploitation.
McKenzie admitted to possessing these images and breaching the conditions of his SOPO, which explicitly forbade him from installing software that could delete his internet history or conceal his online activity.
For this breach, he was sentenced to an additional 25 months in prison.
Most recently, in October 2015, social workers sought to tighten restrictions on McKenzie’s access to technology.
The court agreed to impose new conditions that banned him from possessing any internet-capable devices, including computers and mobile phones, without informing police officers involved in his case management.
He was also prohibited from deleting his internet browser history or using any software designed to erase or hide his online activity.
Furthermore, McKenzie was required to provide police with all passwords and allow officers to access any device he used, without the need for a warrant.
These measures aimed to prevent him from further downloading or viewing illegal material and to ensure ongoing monitoring of his online activity.
Throughout his criminal history, McKenzie has demonstrated a pattern of behavior that continues to alarm authorities.
His initial conviction in 1999 involved a sex attack and multiple lewd and libidinous conduct offenses, which led to a nine-year prison sentence, later reduced to seven on appeal.
Despite being released in 2004, he was supposed to remain under strict supervision, but his continued possession and downloading of child abuse images suggest that he has not been deterred.
The court’s repeated interventions and the tightening of restrictions reflect the serious concern about his potential to reoffend and the importance of protecting vulnerable children from his predatory tendencies.
