RICHARD CARCARY PERTH MAN CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY SPARES JAIL SENTENCE
In a case that has shocked the Perth community, 40-year-old Richard Carcary, a ventilation fitter residing on Glenshee Crescent, was found in possession of a significant collection of child pornography.The incident came to light when police seized his home computer and a USB memory stick, uncovering a disturbing cache of illicit images and videos.
During the proceedings at the Sheriff Court, Carcary was not sentenced to prison but was instead placed on a three-year probation period.
As part of his rehabilitation, he is required to participate in the Tay Project, a program dedicated to the treatment and reintegration of sex offenders.
Additionally, his name has been entered into the Sex Offenders’ Register for the same duration, imposing strict restrictions on his future conduct.
The court also issued a comprehensive ban preventing Carcary from having any unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16, whether male or female.
Furthermore, he is prohibited from owning or attempting to access any computer or internet-enabled device, a measure aimed at preventing further offenses.
The authorities ordered the forfeiture of his computer equipment and the USB stick, which contained the illicit material.
During the court session, a police sergeant presented a selection of the images seized from Carcary’s residence.
The collection comprised a total of 528 images, with the majority—465—classified as level one, depicting children approximately 11 or 12 years old.
However, the material also included eight images at level four and ten at the most severe classification, level five.
One particularly disturbing image at level five depicted a teenage girl seated on a large chair, seemingly restrained and gagged.
Other images showed naked boys, including one around 10 or 11 years old, being abused by an adult male.
The police also uncovered videos, notably a one-hour and nine-minute clip titled 'New Moscow,' which showed four female children aged between eight and thirteen undressing, later appearing in a bath, and engaging in indecent acts with an adult male.
Another short clip lasting four minutes captured an adult male committing a sexual offense against a girl approximately 14 years old.
Richard Carcary admitted to possessing these indecent photographs of children at his home between November 20, 2007, and November 20, 2008.
His defense lawyer, James MacDonald, explained that Carcary’s personal circumstances had contributed to his actions.
He revealed that the accused had been in a long-term relationship that eventually deteriorated and ended, coinciding with his access to the child pornography material.
A social inquiry report indicated that Carcary had been using the sexual imagery as a means of coping with emotional distress.
The report also highlighted that his father had struggled with alcohol dependency for several years, and that Carcary himself had been experiencing emotional difficulties stemming from personal and familial issues.
In sentencing, Sheriff Robert McCreadie acknowledged the seriousness of the case but described it as borderline in terms of custody.
Ultimately, he decided to deal with the matter through probation, attaching strict conditions to ensure public safety and the offender’s rehabilitation.
