COLIN MURRAY PERTH PAEDOPHILE CONVICTED OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND ABUSE
In April 2013, a disturbing case unfolded involving Colin Murray, a man with a long history of criminal behavior linked to child exploitation and indecent conduct, based in Perth.The incident centered around a confrontation between Murray and his neighbor, Lana Robertson, aged 37, which culminated in her being convicted of causing him fear and alarm near his residence.
Colin Murray, aged 60, had previously been convicted of possessing a vile collection of child torture images, including photographs and videos depicting children aged approximately three to 14 years old engaged in sexual acts with adults and animals.
His criminal record also includes a prior conviction for flashing.
Despite his past, Murray insisted that Robertson had no right to shout abuse at him in the street, dismissing her accusations as unjustified.
The images discovered at Murray’s Perth home revealed a disturbing pattern of child abuse, with scenes involving very young children subjected to sexual violence.
The police found these materials during a raid, and Murray admitted to paying hundreds of dollars to an American website to access such content.
His actions were described by authorities as part of an 'evil trade' that fuels the production and distribution of child abuse material.
During the court proceedings, Murray claimed to be distressed by Robertson’s behavior, which he said included her shouting “paedo” outside his house and calling his partner a “paedo lover.” The court heard that Robertson had warned Murray not to speak to her children, as they were frightened of him.
Despite her denial of verbally abusing him, she was convicted of causing him fear and alarm in August and October 2011 near his Perth residence.
Perth Sheriff Court heard that Murray, who was employed at the time by insurance giant Norwich Union, had a history of criminal conduct.
In 2008, he was sentenced to three years in prison after police uncovered a collection of videos and images depicting the torture and rape of children as young as three.
The court viewed these materials, which led Sheriff Robert McCreadie to emphasize that such offenses are not victimless, and Murray was reminded of the serious harm caused by his actions.
Adding to his criminal record, Murray’s earlier convictions date back to 1986 when he was a serving officer with Tayside Police.
At that time, he was convicted of two charges of breach of the peace and one of indecent exposure.
His then-girlfriend, Robertson, had her sentence deferred for good behavior for 12 months.
In February 2009, Murray was sentenced to a year in prison after police discovered over 550 videos and images of child abuse at his Perth home.
He admitted to paying for access to these materials through an American website.
Following his release, he was placed on the sex offenders register for ten years and will be monitored for an additional two years.
Throughout the proceedings, the court underscored the gravity of Murray’s offenses, with Sheriff McCreadie stating, “People who engage in the business of child pornography through viewing such images contribute to the process of abuse and can be said to encourage the production of images.” The case highlights the ongoing threat posed by individuals involved in the exploitation of children and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in combating such heinous crimes.
