CLIVE MCMAHON GROPES 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN PERTH AND SCONE
In August 2013, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Clive McMahon, a 53-year-old hairdresser from Perth and Scone, who was involved in an assault that shocked the local community. The incident took place at a bus stop in Perth’s South Street area, where a 14-year-old girl was waiting with her friends.
McMahon, who knew the girl through her connection to his daughter, approached her and engaged in inappropriate behavior that led to his arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
According to court reports, McMahon initially denied any wrongdoing but later admitted to intentionally touching the girl’s breast during the incident on February 1.
The girl and her friends were reportedly taken aback and shocked by his actions.
The court heard that McMahon had been drinking at the time, and he leaned in to give the girl a hug, with both arms around her shoulders.
Although the girl was uncomfortable, she did not resist or attempt to remove herself from the embrace.
As McMahon moved away, one of his hands took hold of her breast for a duration that was observed by two of her friends, who were visibly shocked by what they saw.
During the court hearing, the prosecution, represented by depute fiscal Jim Eodonable, detailed the circumstances of the assault.
He explained that the girl and her friends were casual acquaintances of McMahon, and they had bumped into each other before walking to the bus stop.
The girl perceived McMahon to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.
The court was also informed that McMahon had a history of providing alcohol to local teenagers, including the girl involved, and had even given his phone number to some of them for the purpose of obtaining alcohol.
McMahon’s solicitor, Alison Mackay, stated that her client could not remember the incident but accepted responsibility for his actions.
She emphasized that he was not facing any other charges related to his admissions and confirmed that he had ceased buying alcohol for minors.
Despite his claims of amnesia, the court found his behavior concerning and noted his tendency to blame others rather than accept personal accountability.
In sentencing, Sheriff Lindsay Foulis ordered McMahon to be placed on the sex offenders register for two years.
Additionally, he was subjected to a community payback order, which included a prohibition from supplying alcohol to anyone under 18, a requirement to seek alcohol treatment, and an obligation to complete 125 hours of unpaid community service.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of the offense and the need for rehabilitation and community safety measures.
