EMMA DAVIES FROM CUMBRIA SENTENCED FOR ONLINE CHILD IMAGE OFFENSES AND DECEPTION

Emma Davies, a 60-year-old resident of Moor Place in Frizington, Cumbria, found herself in court facing serious allegations related to her online activities involving minors.

The case revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior where Davies, who is a known supermarket worker, had assumed the identity of a teenage girl in digital spaces, engaging with other young girls and sharing explicit images that she had received, falsely presenting them as her own.

On August 31 of the previous year, police officers arrived at Davies' home after receiving credible information that she, then known by the name Nigel, had been involved in accessing and viewing inappropriate images of children on the internet.

During the investigation, authorities seized multiple electronic devices, which subsequently contained a category C image depicting a 13-year-old girl.

Further examination uncovered additional images of the same minor on these devices, raising significant concerns about her online conduct.

In her initial police interview, Davies explained that she had been diagnosed as a 'possible transsexual' and believed she could identify as a girl.

She insisted that she had not sought out sexual images and claimed her online persona was a form of escapism.

She stated that her interactions with other young girls revolved around common topics such as music and depression, which she said helped her to 'be someone who is not me.' Further questioning in December 2023 brought about more revelations.

When shown the images found on her devices, Davies acknowledged recalling the pictures but claimed she did not know the identity of the girl depicted.

She explained that the girl had sent her a topless image without her requesting it, and she believed the girl was around 13 or 14 years old.

Davies maintained that she thought she was presenting herself as a teenage girl at the time and emphasized that her sharing of the images was not for her own sexual gratification but rather to embody the persona of a young girl she aspired to be.

She admitted to sharing the images online, falsely claiming they were her own, and stated that she consistently adopted a 'teen girl' role when doing so.

The court was informed that Davies had transitioned earlier in the year, in February, which she described as part of her personal journey.

Prosecutor Pamela Fee highlighted the necessity of a sexual harm prevention order, citing the risk of further harm and the fact that Davies had previously used devices to communicate with others before discarding them.

Ms.

Fee pointed out that a small number of images were found on her devices, which Davies had shared with others under the false pretense of being the girl in the images.

She described the individual in the images as a victim of online sexual abuse.

During the hearing, Davies, who was unrepresented legally, expressed remorse and described her past as a difficult period in her life.

She stated, 'That wasn’t me,' and emphasized her efforts to move forward, including her decision to transition.

She expressed a desire to rebuild her life and move away from her current environment, describing her previous actions as uncharacteristic of her present self.

Davies assured the court that she no longer poses a threat to the public and claimed she no longer engages in online activity.

She expressed her wish to start anew, stating, 'The person I was, wasn’t a very nice person, I suppose.

I find it very distressing and unsettling to bring this person back into my life.' In sentencing, magistrates imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order, a 12-month community order with 20 days of rehabilitation activities, and required Davies to register as a sex offender at the police station within three days.

Additionally, she was fined £120, ordered to pay £85 in costs, and a £114 victim surcharge.

The court's decision reflects the seriousness of her offenses and the ongoing concern for safeguarding minors from online exploitation and deception.
