SEAN BEAZANT CAUGHT IN CUMBRIA AFTER BREACHING SEX OFFENDER ORDERS IN CUMBRIA AND SHEFFIELD
A registered sex offender, identified as Sean Beazant, has been sentenced to two years in prison after breaching multiple court orders and being found in possession of illegal substances.The 38-year-old, who has no fixed address, was brought before Carlisle Crown Court in a case that highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to monitor and manage individuals on the sex offenders register.
Beazant’s legal troubles stem from several violations of his Sexual Offense Prevention Order (SHPO), which was originally issued by Sheffield Crown Court on January 19, 2022.
In addition to this breach, he was also found guilty of three separate violations of his Sex Offender Requirements (SONR).
The court also convicted him of possessing a Class B drug, specifically cannabis, during his arrest.
The case unfolded with law enforcement agencies from South Yorkshire and Cumbria working together to locate Beazant.
Starting from January 30, 2024, officers from South Yorkshire Constabulary made numerous attempts to contact him at his last known address, but these efforts proved unsuccessful.
It was discovered that the property where Beazant claimed to reside was unoccupied, with no one living there.
This prompted further investigations and appeals by MOSOVO officers from both South Yorkshire and Cumbria, which eventually led to a significant breakthrough.
Thanks to the cooperation and assistance of members of the public in Cumbria, Beazant was located at an address in Kendal, a town in Cumbria.
Unbeknownst to his partner, who was unaware of his status as a sex offender or his true name, Beazant was living there.
When police arrived at the property, he was seen attempting to escape by fleeing from a first-floor window.
A thorough search of the area was conducted, and with the help of local residents, Beazant was eventually apprehended and taken into custody for breaching his SHPO.
During the arrest, officers discovered that Beazant was in possession of a quantity of cannabis.
Further investigation at the police station revealed that he was also carrying a mobile phone that had not been declared, which was a direct violation of the conditions set out in his SHPO.
As a registered sex offender since 2021, Beazant was legally required to inform police of his whereabouts and any devices he possessed, but he failed to do so.
It was also revealed that the woman with whom Beazant was in a relationship was unaware of his previous sexual offending history and did not know his correct second name.
Beazant admitted to all charges during an earlier hearing, acknowledging his breaches and illegal possession.
Detective Sergeant Beccy Joseph, from the Management of Sexual Offenders & Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) team, emphasized the importance of strict monitoring.
She stated, “Beazant was fully aware of the requirements of him being a named person on the Sex Offender Register and the terms of the SHPO imposed against him when he breached these.
We work hard to monitor and manage people who are subject to such orders to assess and manage the risk that they pose to the public and to ensure that they are held to account for any breaches of court orders that are issued to assist in managing their risk, and to ensure that the public is safe from harm.” She further added, “This was a great example of police and the public working together to locate a sex offender trying to evade their responsibilities.
If anyone is found to breach the terms of these preventative orders, we will find them, and we take a zero-tolerance approach.
I hope today’s sentencing demonstrates how seriously we take the management of sex offenders.”
