KAINEN JOUGHIN-GRIFFITHS FROM CUMBRIA JAILED FOR VIEWING EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY AND BREACHING SEXUAL OFFENSE ORDERS
A man registered as a sex offender from Cumbria has been sentenced to prison after authorities uncovered his use of a device to access highly disturbing and illegal pornography, including material depicting bestiality.Kainen Joughin-Griffiths, who previously resided on Woodbine Lane in Newton-in-Furness near Barrow, was found to have concealed his internet activity and purchased a new Xbox console without informing the police authorities, in clear violation of the strict conditions imposed on him.
The defendant pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity to multiple charges, including three counts of breaching the terms of his sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) and possession of cannabis.
The case was brought before Preston Crown Court, where it was revealed that Joughin-Griffiths was already under a three-year community order following a series of serious offenses committed earlier this year.
On March 19, he admitted to attempting to engage in sexual communications with a 14-year-old girl from the United States, as well as possessing over 750 indecent images of children, including 502 classified as Category A, which is considered the most severe.
Additionally, he was found to have 257 extreme pornographic images, further demonstrating the gravity of his offenses.
As a consequence of these actions, the court imposed notification requirements on him and extended the sexual harm prevention order for a period of five years, aiming to restrict his access to potentially harmful material and prevent further offenses.
During the proceedings on September 24, prosecutor Richard Flook detailed how police investigations uncovered violations of the court’s restrictions.
He explained that officers responded to a safeguarding report from eSafe, which indicated that an account registered to Joughin-Griffiths had viewed extreme pornography involving bestiality.
The police subsequently arrested him at the Skelwith Bridge Hotel in Ambleside on August 4, suspecting him of possessing illegal and extreme images.
An examination of the devices seized during the search revealed disturbing evidence.
The police found a Samsung phone, an Xbox One Series S, and an Xbox One console.
Further analysis showed that the Xbox Series S had been used without any monitoring software installed, and the Xbox One had not been disclosed to authorities, indicating deliberate concealment.
It was also discovered that Joughin-Griffiths had been using the Samsung device in private browsing mode, which allows users to delete their browsing history and messages.
Indeed, officers found that he had deleted messages on WhatsApp, attempting to hide his activities.
The browsing history on the Xbox Series S was particularly incriminating, as it revealed visits to an adult website and a specific site titled ‘Porn Video Zoophilia,’ which contains content involving animals, a form of extreme and illegal pornography.
Recorder Michelle Brown, who initially sentenced Joughin-Griffiths to a community order, ultimately handed down a custodial sentence of 32 months after considering the severity of his breaches and the nature of his offenses.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat illegal online activity and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation and harm.
