CUMBRIA AND OLDHAM SEX OFFENDER CARL MARSLAND SENTENCED FOR ABUSING YOUNG GIRL
In a case that has shocked the communities of Cumbria and Oldham, Carl Marsland, a 47-year-old man, was sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offenses against a young girl.The crimes, which spanned over six years, involved systematic abuse that left a lasting impact on the victim, who was between the ages of nine and 15 at the time.
Marsland, who was residing on Abbey Hills Road in Oldham during the period when the offenses occurred, pleaded guilty at Carlisle Crown Court to two counts of rape and nine counts of indecent assault.
The court heard that the indecent assaults were part of a broader pattern of conduct that persisted for nearly six years, illustrating a disturbing level of predatory behavior.
During the proceedings, Marsland’s legal representative, Malcolm Dutchman-Smith, emphasized his client’s unusual candor regarding his issues.
Dutchman-Smith stated that Marsland was willing to undergo counseling and any necessary treatment to prevent future offenses, suggesting a degree of remorse and a desire for rehabilitation.
The judge, John Phillips, did not hold back in his condemnation of Marsland’s actions.
He described the abuse as occurring on a “massive and unforgivable scale,” highlighting the profound damage inflicted upon the young girl.
The judge noted that the victim had become so overwhelmed by depression and sadness due to the abuse that she lost her eyelashes, a stark indicator of her emotional suffering.
Judge Phillips remarked that Marsland had manipulated and corrupted the girl, depriving her of a significant part of her childhood and causing lifelong trauma.
As part of his sentence, Marsland was ordered to register as a sex offender and was permanently barred from working with children, measures aimed at protecting others from potential harm in the future.
