DEAN FREEMAN AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN ESSEX
A convicted paedophile has been sentenced to prison after a series of disturbing crimes involving child abuse and an attempted abduction in Essex.Dean Freeman, aged 21 and residing on Hamstel Road in Southend, engaged in heinous acts that have shocked the local community and prompted a serious response from law enforcement.
Freeman had a disturbing history of viewing illicit images depicting young boys being sexually abused.
His criminal behavior escalated when he devised a plan to falsely present himself as a child's father in an attempt to abduct a ten-year-old boy from a school in Rayleigh.
According to reports, Freeman contacted the school claiming he was the child's parent and instructed staff that a taxi would be arriving shortly to pick him up for a dental appointment.
His deception was a calculated effort to gain access to the child.
However, Freeman’s plan did not succeed thanks to the vigilance of the taxi driver, Steven Hilder.
During the pickup, Mr.
Hilder grew suspicious when the young boy expressed unfamiliarity with the house where he was taken.
Recognizing the potential danger, Mr.
Hilder acted swiftly.
He proceeded to pick Freeman up from his residence in Southend but then expelled Freeman from his vehicle after confirming through his office that the child did not have permission to leave school.
The situation intensified when, on January 3, Freeman was arrested for the attempted abduction.
During the investigation, another victim came forward and revealed a prolonged history of sexual abuse by Freeman.
This victim disclosed that Freeman had been abusing him for six years, from the year 2000 up until 2006, indicating the extensive nature of Freeman’s offending.
At Basildon Crown Court, Judge Michael Brooke QC addressed the severity of Freeman’s crimes, describing him as a significant danger to the public.
He commended the quick actions of driver Steven Hilder for preventing further harm.
The judge explicitly stated, “It is clear to me the defendant does have sado-sexual fantasies and he showed he had the motivation to realize such fantasies,” emphasizing the dangerous psychological profile of Freeman.
Freeman pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to several serious charges, including abduction, possession of indecent images of children, gross indecency with a child under 16, and sexual touching of a child without consent.
Recognizing the gravity of his offenses, the court sentenced him to five years and eight months in prison.
Additionally, Freeman was ordered to sign the sex offenders register, marking a mandatory step in monitoring his movements and preventing future harm.
This case underscores the ongoing threat posed by individuals like Freeman and highlights the importance of vigilance and swift action by those in key roles, such as drivers and school staff, in protecting vulnerable children in Essex and beyond.
