November 2018 Pensioner convicted of sex offences has died in Chelmsford Prison A sex offender jailed last year for a string of disturbing offences has died in Chelmsford Prison. The paedophile was being treated in the Category B institution’s medical wing when he died of cancer in the early hours of Sunday, October 28. Brian John Tusan, 81, was serving a seven-and-a-half year prison sentence; there were 10 charges against him – six of them involved a child. Tusan was 80 years old when he was jailed on October 26, 2017 and only spent one year and two days behind bars before his death. The following offences were committed by Tusan: Six counts of causing to incite a female child under the age of 13 to engage with sexual activity, with no penetration; Assaulting a girl under 13; Assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration with part of his body/a thing; and Two counts of sexual assault of a female. At the time of his death, he was receiving end of life care in prison after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. An on-call doctor at HMP Chelmsford pronounced him deceased at 3.58am. Police were called and concluded that there were no suspicious circumstances, Essex Coroner’s Court heard yesterday (Friday, November 2). Two days after Tusan’s death, a post-mortem was carried out by Doctor Martin Goddard at Broomfield Hospital. He gave a provisional cause of death as double pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – the umbrella term for a group of lung conditions. Lymphoma was also listed as a cause of death.
