CHRISTOPHER WREN SENTENCED IN ESSEX FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES INVOLVING 12-YEAR-OLD BOY
A 69-year-old man named Christopher Wren from Essex has been convicted and sentenced to prison after being found guilty of multiple child sex offenses involving a young boy.The disturbing incident came to light when staff members at a local shop witnessed Wren engaging in inappropriate behavior with a 12-year-old boy, leading to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
According to court records, the incident occurred in July of the previous year.
Employees at a nearby Co-Op store observed Wren in a compromising situation, where he was seen naked in his hot tub with the young victim.
This alarming sight prompted immediate concern and led to police intervention.
Wren was promptly taken into custody following these observations.
During the court hearing held at Chelmsford Crown Court last Wednesday, details emerged about Wren’s relationship with the victim.
It was revealed that Wren, who resides on Hill Road in Harwich, had paid the teenager to perform various odd jobs around his house before the abuse took place.
The court heard that Wren’s misconduct involved multiple charges, specifically five counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and three counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13.
Throughout the proceedings, Wren maintained a subdued demeanor, standing with his head bowed.
He was dressed in grey joggers and a grey Puma jumper.
His wife was present in the public gallery, witnessing the proceedings.
The court was informed that Wren admitted to the charges following his arrest, acknowledging his guilt in causing or inciting sexual activity with a minor and sexually assaulting the same child.
In his defense, Christopher Martin, representing Wren, emphasized that this was the first offense of its kind for the defendant.
He highlighted Wren’s serious health issues, noting that the man had been discovered in his prison cell in a diabetic coma on three separate occasions.
Martin described Wren as a well-educated individual who had contributed positively to society through regular employment and a stable family life.
Wren has been married for 40 years, and his wife is reportedly fully aware of the circumstances surrounding his offending, remaining supportive despite the gravity of the situation.
Furthermore, Wren’s health was a significant factor in the case.
The defense detailed his ongoing medical conditions, including type 2 diabetes and recent triple heart bypass surgery.
Over the past three weeks, Wren had been rushed from HMP Chelmsford to hospital after being found in a diabetic coma in his cell, underscoring his fragile health status.
Judge Alexander Mills delivered the sentence, condemning Wren to four years in prison.
The judge also took a moment to remind Wren of the profound impact his actions had on the victim and his family.
He stated, “It’s clear there has been an impact and remains to be impact on the victim and the family, and I have taken that into account.” The judge emphasized that, given the seriousness of the offenses, the minimum sentence he could impose was four years, reflecting the gravity of the crimes committed.
