KEANU VELLA FROM ESSEX SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND KIDNAPPING AT SNARESBROOK CROWN COURT
A man registered as a sex offender from Essex has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after committing a brutal assault involving rape and false imprisonment.Keanu Vella, aged 30 and residing on Maldon Walk, appeared before Snaresbrook Crown Court on July 11 to face justice for his actions that took place earlier this year.
Vella’s criminal conduct was linked to an incident on May 10, 2023, during which he arranged for a woman, who was offering escort services, to visit his residence.
The woman had agreed to meet him at his home, but the situation took a sinister turn once the scheduled appointment concluded.
Instead of allowing her to leave freely, Vella detained her against her will and subjected her to a sexual assault at knifepoint.
The assault was severe enough that the victim was left outside Vella’s address, visibly distressed and in need of help.
The Metropolitan Police responded swiftly after a passer-by noticed the woman outside Vella’s property.
The police intervened and arrested Vella, who was found to have changed his registered address to Maldon Walk without informing his offender management officer, thereby breaching the conditions of his previous court orders.
This violation prompted further investigation and charges.
Vella was formally charged on May 12, 2023, and remanded in custody.
He later admitted to failing to comply with the notification requirements imposed on registered sex offenders.
His court appearances culminated in a guilty plea on March 12, 2024, where he admitted to the charges of rape and false imprisonment.
During the sentencing hearing, Detective Constable Jessica Stephens emphasized the danger Vella poses to women, stating, “Keanu Vella is a registered sex offender who is a clear danger to women.
He has demonstrated that he is unable to comply with the court ordered notifications that allow him his freedom, and it is right that he will now be in a place where he no longer poses a threat to women and girls.
I hope that the sentence handed down encourages other victims of sex offences to come forward.” Vella received a substantial prison sentence: 40 weeks for failing to comply with notification requirements, four years for false imprisonment, and an extended sentence of twelve years and nine months for the rape itself.
Additionally, he will serve an extended licence period, totaling 18 years and nine months, and remains subject to an indefinite Registered Sex Offender notification requirement.
PC Emma Porter expressed her gratitude to the victim, acknowledging her strength and patience throughout the legal process.
“We are grateful to the victim in this case.
She has shown strength, courage and patience throughout the court process.
Now that Vella is behind bars it is my sincere hope that she can put his abhorrent actions behind her and move forward with her life.”
