MARK ALLEN SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN YORKSHIRE
The victim of Mark Allen, a convicted paedophile from Ackworth, Yorkshire, has spoken out about the profound impact his crimes have had on her life, expressing uncertainty about whether she will ever fully recover from her traumatic experiences.Mark William Allen, aged 31 at the time of his sentencing, was sentenced to 12 years in prison by Leeds Crown Court after being found guilty of persistent child sexual abuse that occurred during the early 2000s.
The court proceedings revealed a harrowing history of abuse, which the victim, now 25 years old, was compelled to testify against her abuser.
Allen, who was residing in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, at the time of his arrest, faced justice after a trial that uncovered the extent of his offences.
His victim, who has been granted lifelong anonymity for her protection, spoke publicly about her suffering, telling the Express, “My life has been so badly affected that I’m not sure I can ever move on from this but at least I can rest better at night knowing he isn’t able to harm any other children.” She further shared her ongoing struggles, saying, “I struggle day to day with severe anxiety disorder, depression and PTSD-like symptoms.
I have been heavily medicated for some years due to the significant trauma I’ve sustained.” The woman recounted her initial acquaintanceship with Allen, describing him as a family friend she met when she was only six years old.
Over time, Allen’s behavior towards her grew increasingly inappropriate—initially marked by displays of over-familiarity and generosity—eventually escalating into severe abuse.
She detailed how, by the age of 11, Allen was coercing her into engaging in sexual acts, which continued for three years.
During this period, he kept her silent about his actions, insisting he was in love with her and warning her that disclosing their relationship would lead to him getting into trouble.
Reflecting on her childhood, the victim explained, “As a child I found it difficult to keep secrets from my family, knowing it was wrong but also wanting to protect the man that had by then become my ‘boyfriend’.” She admitted that as an adult, this all sounds “crazy,” but emphasized how complex and confusing her situation was as a young girl, making it difficult to grasp the full severity of Allen’s abuse at the time.
It was not until 2013, when Allen was sentenced to prison for other sexual offences, that she found the courage to come forward and report her own abuse to the police.
Her testimony and her bravery contributed significantly to his conviction.
Following his sentencing, Det Insp Vanessa Rolfe of the Wakefield District Child Safeguarding Team expressed her satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “Allen committed some horrendous abuse against a very young and vulnerable victim, and we are pleased this has been reflected in the substantial sentence he has received at court.
He clearly poses a real danger to children, and I hope his victim finds some comfort in knowing justice has been served and he is now held accountable for his crimes against her.”
