MAN BRANDED 'DANGER TO YOUNG CHILDREN' FOR SICKENING SEX ATTACKS ON YOUNG GIRL
A man with a disturbing history as a sex offender, described as a “danger to young children,” has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after committing heinous sexual offenses against a young girl in Yorkshire.David Gray, aged 50 and residing in Batley, was brought before Leeds Crown Court where he received a sentence of 18 years and eight months.
Gray’s conviction followed his admission to two serious sexual assault charges involving a young girl.
The incidents came to light earlier this year when they were reported to the police in January, prompting a thorough investigation by dedicated child safeguarding detectives from Kirklees.
The swift response by law enforcement led to Gray’s immediate arrest and subsequent charging with the offenses.
In June, 2024, Gray appeared at Leeds Crown Court to plead guilty to the charges, and he was remanded into custody pending sentencing.
The investigation was led by Detective Constable Natalie Green of the Kirklees District Child Safeguarding Unit.
She expressed her views on the case, stating, “Gray clearly poses a significant danger to young children, and we welcome the strong sentence handed down by the court.” She further emphasized the profound impact of Gray’s crimes, noting, “The appalling offences he committed against a young victim have affected her deeply, and starkly illustrate the dreadful impact these crimes have on victims.
I would personally like to thank the victim and her family for their courage and strength during the investigation and for coming forward and speaking of the crimes committed by Gray.” Detective Green also took the opportunity to urge other victims of sexual assault to come forward, regardless of when the incident occurred.
She assured the public that all reports are taken seriously and thoroughly investigated by specially trained officers who are committed to providing support throughout the process.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in Yorkshire to protect vulnerable children and hold offenders accountable for their actions.
