GERALD ELLIS OF YORKSHIRE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CRIMES
A former pub landlord from Yorkshire has been sentenced to prison after a series of disturbing sexual offenses against three young women, coupled with serious charges related to child exploitation images.The case, which has shocked the local community, highlights the disturbing pattern of behavior exhibited by Gerald Ellis, 64, of Primrose Drive, Filey.
Ellis was found guilty of multiple sexual assault charges spanning several years, involving three different women.
The incidents took place between December 2013 and March 2020, with the victims feeling increasingly powerless to report their experiences until Ellis’s broader criminal activities came to light.
The prosecution, led by Claire Holmes, revealed that the initial revelations about Ellis’s misconduct emerged after he was convicted in September 2020 at Hull Crown Court for possessing indecent images and videos of children.
This conviction prompted the three women, who had previously remained silent, to come forward and share their stories.
According to court records, Ellis’s misconduct towards the first woman involved repeated inappropriate touching.
On one occasion, he cornered her against a wall, preventing her from moving, and forcibly kissed her.
Despite her efforts to push him away and tell him to leave her alone, witnesses observed Ellis engaging in intimate contact with her.
The woman described the experience as “horrible” and expressed her decision to report the incident to prevent Ellis from harming anyone else.
The second woman’s account detailed an aggressive attempt by Ellis to kiss her when he lunged at her unexpectedly.
She managed to pull back, but the emotional impact of the encounter was profound.
She later revealed that she was deeply affected by the media coverage of Ellis’s previous conviction for viewing indecent images of children, describing it as “breaking her heart.” Ellis’s interactions with the third woman were equally troubling.
He was observed hitting her on the buttocks over her clothing as he passed by.
He also offered her a substantial sum of £1,000 to sleep with him, an offer she refused.
She described Ellis’s behavior as “weird and uncomfortable,” and during police interviews, Ellis denied the allegations.
In addition to these assaults, Ellis admitted to breaching a sexual harm prevention order and failing to comply with his notification requirements as a registered sex offender.
These breaches included allowing a girl to stay at his residence when he was prohibited from doing so and possessing an unregistered iPad.
The court also heard that police had seized his laptop in March 2019, uncovering videos and images depicting child abuse, including a girl aged four or five being raped and children between eight and ten being forced to perform sexual acts.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Alexander Menary described Ellis’s conduct as targeting vulnerable women and showering them with gifts, money, and expensive items such as a mobile phone, a horse, and holidays abroad.
The judge emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating that only immediate custody was appropriate.
Ellis, who was already in custody on remand, was sentenced to three years and two months in prison.
Additionally, he was issued a 12-year sexual harm prevention order, a 15-year restraining order, and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
Prosecutor Simon Reevell noted that Ellis had pleaded guilty on the day of his trial, describing the case as “a sorry and unfortunate business” and marking the end of a “sorry period” in his life.
The court’s previous findings in September 2020 revealed that Ellis, also known as Gerry, had watched videos of children being abused, including a girl of four or five being raped, and other videos showing children between eight and ten being forced into sexual acts.
His excessive drinking, which reached up to 15 pints a day, was also highlighted as a contributing factor to his criminal behavior, along with his subsequent divorce and turn to pornography.
