CROC EXPERT JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF ANIMALS & ACCESSING CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL
Adam Robert Corden Britton, born around 1970, is a figure whose name became infamous in Yorkshire due to a series of heinous crimes involving animal cruelty and child abuse material. His criminal activities span several years, beginning in 2014, and culminated in his arrest in September 2022.
Despite the initial legal restrictions on his identity, a suppression order was in place until he pleaded guilty in September 2023, bringing his full story to light.
Britton, a British-born Australian with a background as a crocodile expert and zoologist, was charged with an astonishing total of 60 offences.
These charges included the sexual abuse and torture of animals, specifically dogs, as well as possession of child abuse material.
His guilty plea to these charges marked a significant development in a case that shocked the local community and animal rights advocates alike.
Investigations revealed that Britton had engaged in deceptive practices to lure dogs through online platforms such as Gumtree Australia, where he claimed to be rehoming animals.
He would tell the previous owners that their dogs were thriving under his care, all the while secretly abusing and killing them.
The extent of his cruelty was particularly disturbing, with evidence indicating that he sexually abused 42 dogs, of which 39 died as a result of his actions.
As of 25 September 2023, Britton faced a total of 60 charges, which also included the possession and distribution of child abuse material, alongside his bestiality offences.
His guilty plea to these serious allegations underscored the gravity of his crimes.
The legal proceedings for his sentencing were scheduled to take place in December 2023 but were delayed multiple times.
The initial postponement was followed by further delays in February and May 2024, with the latest rescheduling set for 8 August 2024 due to conflicts in the judge’s calendar.
On that date, Britton was finally sentenced to a term of ten years and five months in prison, with a non-parole period of six years.
His sentence was backdated to his arrest in April 2022, reflecting the time he had already spent in custody.
Additionally, the court imposed a ban on him purchasing or possessing animals, and he was prohibited from having animals on his property.
Judge Grant described Britton’s conduct as involving a level of depravity and reprehensibility that defies ordinary human understanding, emphasizing the severity of his actions.
In a letter read aloud by his lawyer from prison, Britton expressed remorse for his crimes.
He admitted to taking “full responsibility for the demeaning crimes” committed against the dogs and acknowledged the pain and trauma inflicted on innocent families.
Britton also stated that his actions had caused suffering not only to his victims but also to his own family, friends, and the wider community.
He confessed to battling a rare paraphilic disorder throughout much of his life, which he said shame and fear had prevented him from seeking proper help for earlier.
Britton concluded his letter by stating his intention to pursue long-term treatment to address his issues and prevent future harm.
