JAY FLEMING FROM YORKSHIRE CAUGHT WITH OVER 2,000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND VIDEOS
In a serious case brought before Hull Crown Court, police uncovered a disturbing collection of over 2,000 indecent images and videos of children on the mobile device of Jay Fleming, a 26-year-old man from Bridlington, Yorkshire. The discovery was made following a tip-off from the National Crime Agency, which prompted an investigation into Fleming's digital activities.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the collection comprised a total of 2,042 files, including 1,638 photographs and 404 videos.
Of particular concern, 653 of these files were classified within the most severe category, Category A, indicating the most explicit content involving children.
The authorities detailed that Fleming’s device contained a significant number of images and videos across all categories, with 382 picture files and 271 videos in Category A, 614 images and 99 videos in Category B, and 642 images along with 34 videos in Category C.
Prosecutor Michael Masson explained that Fleming was apprehended in Bridlington after the NCA provided crucial intelligence that led to his arrest.
It was suspected that Fleming had been sharing these illicit images via Snapchat; however, investigators later confirmed that the Snapchat application was not installed on his phone.
Despite this, the evidence on his device was extensive and disturbing.
Fleming fully cooperated with police during his interview, admitting to the possession of the indecent images without hesitation.
Hull Live reported that he made complete and candid admissions, which played a role in the court’s consideration of his case.
His defense lawyer, Emily Hassell, emphasized that there was no evidence to suggest Fleming had attempted to contact or had contacted children directly.
Furthermore, Fleming had no prior criminal convictions and was assessed as posing a low risk of reoffending.
Judge Tahir Khan KC addressed Fleming directly in court, condemning his actions.
The judge stated, “You accessed from the internet indecent images of children.
Found on your device were a large number of Category A images and also Category A videos.
Category B and Category C images were also found on your device as well.
If you had not pleaded guilty to these offences, I would have sent you to prison for 18 months but you had the good sense to admit what you did.
That makes a difference to a sentence of custody that I can suspend and a sentence of custody that would require you to go down those steps.
I have a duty to protect the public, and children in particular, given the nature of the offending.” As a result, Fleming was sentenced to a one-year prison term, which was suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to complete a 30-day rehabilitation program.
Additionally, he is subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and will be registered as a sex offender for the next decade, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing risk to the community.
