LEE COURTNEY FROM CAMBRIDGESHIRE SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES AND REPEATED OFFENSES
A man identified as Lee Courtney, aged 33, from North Brink in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, has been sentenced to a 16-month prison term after being found in possession of a mobile phone containing a staggering 140 indecent images of children.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and the challenges faced in monitoring offenders who attempt to conceal their illicit activities.
According to police reports, Courtney believed he could evade detection by hiding his mobile device from authorities.
Despite his efforts, officers managed to locate the phone during a raid conducted on 18 March, revealing the disturbing content stored on it.
The discovery was part of a broader investigation into his previous offenses and breaches of court orders.
Courtney’s criminal history includes a prior conviction from January 2021, when he was given a suspended prison sentence and placed on the sex offenders register after being found guilty of creating indecent images of children.
Despite these measures, authorities suspected that Courtney had failed to fully comply with his registration obligations, specifically by not notifying them of two email accounts linked to his activities.
This breach prompted further scrutiny and ultimately led to his arrest.
On 20 June, at Cambridge Crown Court, Courtney admitted to multiple charges, including breaching a sexual harm prevention order, failing to adhere to sex offender register notification requirements, and possessing indecent photographs of a child.
The court officials confirmed that he would remain on the sex offenders register until January 2031 and would be subject to a sexual harm prevention order until January 2036.
These legal measures are designed to restrict his activities and monitor his behavior to prevent further offenses.
PC Natasha Alwin, speaking about the case, emphasized the seriousness of Courtney’s actions and the failure to learn from previous penalties.
She stated, “Despite having a suspended sentence and being aware of his sexual harm prevention order and notification requirements, Courtney reoffended and tried to lie about a mobile phone he thought he could hide from us.
He clearly has not learnt his lesson.” The case underscores the importance of vigilance and enforcement in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation and ensuring offenders are held accountable for their actions.
