JOHN DAVIES OF SOWERBY BRIDGE JAILED FOR 18 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN CALDERDALE AND HUDDERSFIELD
A man from Sowerby Bridge, Calderdale, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after being convicted of multiple sexual offences involving young children.John Davies, aged 58, was officially branded a danger to children by Kirklees safeguarding detectives following his sentencing at Leeds Crown Court on Friday.
Davies was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual touching during a trial held in June.
His abusive actions occurred between 2014 and 2020 across Calderdale and Huddersfield, targeting four girls.
As part of his sentence, he will be added to the sex offenders register and will be under a sexual harm prevention order.
His criminal behaviour first drew police attention in 2020 after one of his victims disclosed the abuse.
This led to an immediate investigation, which culminated in Davies's arrest shortly thereafter.
Both Calderdale and Kirklees specialist detectives conducted further inquiries into the case.
During sentencing, the judge described Davies as a dangerous offender who posed a high risk of serious harm to very young children.
Detective Constable Yvonne Brear of the Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit, who led the investigation alongside Detective Constable Ameira Blight, stated: "John Davies abused the trust of others and took advantage of young victims in a truly dreadful way.
It is no exaggeration to say he poses a real danger to children, and we welcome the substantial sentence handed down to him today." She added, "He chose to worsen the suffering of his victims and their families by contesting the case at trial, and that has been reflected in the sentence imposed." West Yorkshire Police reaffirmed their dedication to thoroughly investigating all reports of child sexual offences, emphasizing that victims' needs remain at the forefront of their efforts.
