Febuary 2009 Mum’s anger over sex fiend’s sentence THE mother of a 14-year-old girl targeted by a child sex fiend has slammed his three-year sentence as ‘disgusting’. And she called for parents to be told if convicted child molesters are living in their neighbourhood. She spoke out after Andrew Edwards was jailed for exploiting the girl and her boyfriend, also aged 14. He invited the youngsters back to his flat and plied then with alcohol and cigarettes before showing them pornography. A SEX attacker dubbed the “Remember me?” rapist abused children after he was freed from prison early. A judge jailed pub landlord Andrew Edwards, 42, originally from Llanishen, Cardiff, for 12 years in October 2000 after a sickening double rape on the same woman. He had committed the second rape while he was on bail for the first. When he returned to violate his victim a second time, Edwards greeted her saying: “Remember me?” Officials released him from prison in January 2006 – halfway through his sentence – and Edwards fled to Dorset where he plied two children with porn, alcohol and cigarettes before sexually “exploiting” them. Jailing Edwards for three years at Bournemouth Crown Court yesterday, Recorder Jonathan Fuller QC said the defendant had exploited a teenage boy and girl. The judge told Edwards: “You gave them drink and cigarettes, showing them pornography and putting a bedroom at their disposal, encouraging them to have sexual relations. “You took the opportunity on both occasions to engage in sexual activity. “I’m satisfied that you were after having sexual intercourse with this child.” Recorder Fuller added: “You knew full well the boundaries the law imposes in this country and you were prepared to cross them. “These were children and you exploited them. You took advantage of them when they should have been protected. You encouraged them with inducements to visit your home.” A jury last month found Edwards guilty of eight counts of sexual activity with a child and inciting sexual activity with children. Eight years ago Edwards attacked a 35-year-old Cardiff mum after forcing her from her home in front of her six-year-old son who begged Edwards: “Don’t hurt mummy, don’t punch her, don’t hit me.” He was arrested and bailed on condition he stayed at least 20 miles away from his victim, who he later forced to have sex at knifepoint. Cardiff Crown Court heard Edwards first struck after the woman put her two children aged six and four to bed. “She was woken some time later by Edwards standing over her holding a knife as she lay on the bed,” the court was told. “He pulled back the duvet and said, ‘You’re coming down with me’. She was petrified. There was a telephone by the bed but she did not dare try to reach it. “He kept saying he was going to make love to her before he killed himself.” The court heard Edwards forced the woman to perform an indecent act on him after threatening her with a “slow death”. She tried to escape but Edwards grabbed her by the hair, pushed her upstairs and raped her. Afterwards Edwards told her: “Look what you made me do.” Three weeks after her first ordeal, the woman woke to find Edwards standing over her with a knife. The court was told Edwards said: “Remember me? Remember this? Get up and get dressed and put something nice on.” He forced her into a van and drove to a building site where he tore off her clothing, poured vodka over her body and raped her. Jailing him then, Recorder David Aubrey QC told him: “You were involved in a horrifying and appalling catalogue of terrifying violence.”
