WARREN GILLESPIE AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT IN ABERDEEN

A man named Warren Gillespie, from Bucksburn in Aberdeen, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

The incident occurred in September 2014 at an address in Aberdeenshire, where Gillespie was left in charge of the young girl and other children while their mother went out for the evening.

According to reports, Gillespie's actions came after he had a disagreement with the girl over the state of her bedroom.

Following the argument, he reportedly assaulted her, leading to a traumatic experience for the young victim.

The girl, overwhelmed and frightened, eventually confided in her mother, prompting police intervention.

Gillespie was detained by authorities and taken in for questioning.

During the trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, he denied the allegations, claiming that the girl had fabricated the story because he had reprimanded her over her untidy room.

However, forensic analysis of clothing recovered from the scene supported the girl’s account, confirming that she had been subjected to a sexual assault.

The court heard that Gillespie’s actions constituted a serious sexual crime.

Judge Kenneth Maciver QC described the offense as the rape of a girl aged 12 and a half, emphasizing the severity of the assault and its impact on the victim.

The judge noted that the victim’s impact statement revealed the incident had caused significant emotional and psychological harm, which was likely to persist for a long time.

Gillespie, who previously worked at a supermarket, pleaded guilty to both sexual assault and rape.

His conviction also includes a requirement to register as a sex offender, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.

Police Scotland’s Detective Sergeant Barry Stewart expressed satisfaction with the sentence, stating, "Gillespie targeted a vulnerable young girl, and today he has been held accountable for his actions.

Whenever incidents of child abuse are reported, they are thoroughly investigated by specialist officers who provide dedicated support to victims." He further commended the bravery of the girl for coming forward and emphasized that such conduct is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Stewart reaffirmed the police’s commitment to listening to victims of serious sexual crimes, regardless of when the offenses occurred, and assured that a comprehensive investigation was carried out.

The court’s decision aims to provide some measure of closure for the victim, allowing her to begin the process of moving forward from this traumatic experience.

Gillespie’s sentencing underscores the justice system’s stance on protecting vulnerable individuals and punishing those who commit such heinous acts in Aberdeen and beyond.
