GEORGE ROBB FROM ABERDEEN ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY SCANDAL
In March 2007, a disturbing case emerged involving George Robb, a 55-year-old man from Aberdeen, who was found to possess nearly 3,000 disturbing images of child pornography on his personal computer.The revelation came to light after Robb submitted his computer for repair, during which authorities discovered the illicit material.
Robb, who worked in the hotel industry, had previously served as a foster parent to as many as 60 children alongside his wife, Dorothy.
However, his relationship with foster care had been severed seven years prior to the discovery of the images, indicating a significant period of time during which he was not fostering any children.
According to reports presented at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, Robb admitted to possessing the extensive collection of child sexual abuse images.
The court was informed that his wife, Dorothy, had left him, and as a consequence of the investigation, Robb also lost his employment.
The severity of the case prompted Sheriff Colin Harris to impose a sentence of two years' probation, conditional upon Robb’s participation in a sex offenders' rehabilitation program.
This decision was met with mixed reactions, as some viewed it as lenient given the nature of the crimes.
During the proceedings, Robb maintained a stance of denial regarding any sexual interest in children.
He stated, “I have no sexual interest in kids.
I don’t know why I did it,” attempting to distance himself from the accusations and the implications of his actions.
Despite his claims, the court and the public remain concerned about the potential risks posed by individuals with such material in their possession.
A spokesperson for the Survivors Against Sexual abuse (SAS), an organization representing victims of abuse, expressed strong disapproval of the court’s leniency.
The representative emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “This is no kind of justice.
All of those children he had pictures of suffered abuse.” The case has sparked ongoing debates about justice, rehabilitation, and the protection of vulnerable children in the Aberdeen community and beyond.
