ABERDEEN'S STEVEN LEISK: CHILD KILLER AND SEX OFFENDER'S SHOCKING CRIMES AND PRISON STRUGGLES

In a case that has shocked the city of Aberdeen and the wider community, Steven Leisk, a man with a deeply troubling criminal history, was involved in a series of heinous acts that culminated in the tragic murder of a nine-year-old boy.

His story is marked by violence, legal battles, and a disturbing pattern of offending that has left many questioning the effectiveness of the justice and social systems in place.

Leisk, now 39 years old, was initially sentenced in 1997 for the murder of Scott Simpson, a young boy from Aberdeen.

The court ordered that he serve a minimum of 25 years behind bars, a sentence handed down by Lord Philip.

The murder took place in July 1997, when Leisk abducted Scott from a local playground near his home.

The young boy was strangled with a scarf and left in the grounds of Aberdeen University.

The tragic incident unfolded after Scott was approached by Leisk, who offered him a roll-up cigarette and a note promising computer games for a fee.

Scott, showing innocence and curiosity, took the note to his friends before heading off with Leisk, never to return.

Following the murder, Leisk’s criminal record revealed a pattern of sexual offenses.

He had four prior convictions for sex crimes and was under supervision by social services at the time of Scott’s disappearance.

Despite this, authorities failed to act swiftly on the information that Leisk was residing directly opposite the last place Scott was seen alive, a lapse that drew criticism from prosecutors.

The police launched a massive search after Scott was reported missing, but it was not until Leisk’s arrest that the body was discovered in a lane near Aberdeen University.

Leisk’s criminal activities did not end with the murder.

In January 1999, he was involved in an incident within Peterhead Prison, a high-security facility in north-east Scotland.

While incarcerated, Leisk was attacked by another inmate while in the prison laundry.

The assault left him requiring stitches after being kicked and punched in the face.

The attack was reportedly stopped by prison officers, who intervened quickly to prevent further injury.

Leisk’s injuries were considered relatively minor, but the incident highlighted the ongoing risks faced by inmates, especially those with a history of heinous crimes.

Leisk’s troubled past also includes allegations of abuse during his childhood and a stint as an army medical orderly in the Falklands.

His defense team has pointed to these factors in an attempt to explain his behavior, but the courts have consistently viewed him as a significant danger to society.

His release on parole remains a distant prospect, as he is currently eligible for parole in 15 years, though his original sentence mandated a minimum of 25 years.

In addition to the murder of Scott Simpson, Leisk’s record includes assaults on two 14-year-old boys earlier this year, further emphasizing his pattern of violent and predatory behavior.

His case has sparked widespread concern about the adequacy of supervision and the measures in place to prevent offenders like him from reoffending.

The community in Aberdeen continues to grapple with the trauma caused by his actions, and questions remain about how such individuals are monitored and rehabilitated within the criminal justice system.
