RAYMOND HUGHES SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN WARRINGTON
In June 2022, Raymond Hughes, a pensioner from Warrington, was convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a young girl.The case revealed a disturbing pattern of depraved behavior that culminated in Hughes being sentenced to over eleven years in prison for his actions.
Hughes, aged 74, was found guilty of multiple serious charges, including four counts of sexual assault by penetration of a child under the age of 13, as well as taking indecent images of a child.
The court also convicted him of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and of causing a child to watch sexual acts, highlighting the extent of his criminal conduct.
The victim, whose identity remains protected, disclosed to her family in January that she had been subjected to sexual abuse by Hughes.
Her family described their shock and horror upon learning of her revelations.
She confided that she had wanted to speak out for a long time but was fearful of the consequences.
Once police were involved, she was interviewed and provided detailed accounts of Hughes’s disturbing behavior.
According to her testimony, Hughes would make her sit on his knee while he showed her online pornography.
During these encounters, he would perform sexual acts on her, including penetrative activity that she described as painful.
Hughes also took explicit photographs of her while she was naked, calling her “beautiful” and telling her she would be “attractive when she grew up.” Law enforcement officers discovered 20 indecent images of the girl in Hughes’s possession.
Among these, two were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of indecency, while eight were Category B and ten Category C.
The victim further revealed that Hughes would force her to hold his penis while he urinated and would perform sexual acts on himself in her presence.
He also warned her not to tell anyone about the abuse, claiming that “bad guys would hurt him.” Following his arrest, Hughes was taken into custody and interviewed by police.
During the interview, he made full admissions, acknowledging that he was aroused when she sat on his knee and when he touched her inappropriately.
He admitted to engaging in penetrative acts but insisted he never used his penis during these acts.
Hughes, of Thurston Close in Hood Manor, Warrington, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to a term of 11 years and four months in prison.
Due to the severity of his crimes, he was classified as an “offender of particular concern,” which entails a determinate sentence.
This means he will serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for parole.
If released, he will be subject to an additional year on extended license.
Furthermore, Hughes is required to register as a sex offender, adhere to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, and comply with a restraining order that prohibits him from contacting or approaching his victim.
These measures are intended to protect the victim and prevent further harm, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the lasting impact on the young girl involved.
