November 2004 PAEDOPHILE CAGED FOR SEVEN YEARS A PAEDOPHILE who attempted to rape a young girl has been caged for seven years. Stephen Horgan, aged 43, pleaded guilty to the offence and to a charge of indecent assault at Warrington Crown Court back in July. This week he stood trial on two counts of raping the girl’s younger sister but was found not guilty. Pervert Horgan told the court that he was ‘ashamed’ and ‘disgusted’ by what he had done to the older sister, who was aged under 16 at the time. She first made the accusations against Horgan, who used to be in the Army, back in 1999 but later retracted them. The court heard that it was earlier this year that she returned to the police and repeated the allegations. Horgan, of West Street in Orford, moved to Warrington from Plymouth in the early 1990s. He worked as a coach driver for Star Line, based in Knutsford, and later as a bus driver at Haydock-based Gold Line. Judge David Hale sentenced Horgan to six years for the attempted rape and one year for the indecent assault. Horgan will also sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, and he has been disqualified from working with children.
