September 2000 Pervert free to look after mum A SEX abuser walked free from court because he was his 89-year-old mother’s sole carer. Alec Durrington, 65, admitted indecently assaulting an 11-year-old girl 14 years ago. He was placed on probation for three years at Warrington Crown Court, ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register and to attend a rehabilitation course. Matthew Dunsford, prosecuting, said that Durrington, a bachelor, from Warrington, committed the offences between 1986 and 1990 when the girl was aged 11-to-14. They only came to light when, shortly before she was due to marry, the girl told her fiance. Michael Davies, defending, said his client admitted the offences as soon as he was challenged. He was deeply ashamed of what he had done. He was the now the sole carer of his 89-year-old mother who was heavily dependent on him. Judge David Hale told Durrington it would not be in anyone’s interest if he was sent to prison.
