DAVID BLUNDELL CAUGHT IN WARRINGTON GROOMING SCANDAL INVOLVING TEENAGER IN SHROPSHIRE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Warrington community, David Blundell, a 34-year-old man, has been convicted and sentenced for grooming a teenage girl from Shropshire and engaging in sexual activities with her.The incident, which took place in September of the previous year, highlights the dangers lurking on online platforms and the importance of safeguarding minors from exploitation.
According to court records, Blundell admitted to meeting the underage girl after initiating contact through a modelling website called Net Models.
The girl, who was only 15 years old at the time, had posted her details on the site in hopes of pursuing a career in modelling.
Unbeknownst to her, Blundell, who resided in Warrington, had been communicating with her and eventually arranged to meet in person.
The meeting was set for September 8 in Telford Town Centre.
Prosecutor Mr.
Phillip Lowe explained that Blundell traveled from his home in Epping Drive, Warrington, Cheshire, to Telford for the purpose of meeting the girl.
Following their initial contact, Blundell drove from Sussex to Telford and took the girl to the Days Inn Hotel in Shifnal, where a photoshoot was allegedly arranged.
The court heard that during this encounter, Blundell engaged in sexual activity with the girl, an act he later admitted.
In addition to the sexual activity, Blundell was found to have taken indecent photographs of the girl, totaling 63 images.
These photographs were immediately destroyed by Blundell after the incident, as he claimed he had no intention of sharing or publishing them.
However, forensic officers later recovered the images during their investigation.
Blundell’s defense lawyer, Mr.
John Burton, argued that his client was perhaps naive and emotionally less mature than his 33 years, which contributed to his actions.
Burton also emphasized that Blundell had an interest in professional photography, which was the context for the images taken.
At Shrewsbury Crown Court, Blundell pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including meeting a child following sexual grooming, two counts of sexual activity with a child, and two counts of taking indecent photographs of a child.
The court sentenced him to two years in prison for the sexual activity, with an additional six months for each of the other charges, all to run concurrently but consecutively to the main sentence.
Furthermore, Blundell was ordered to register as a sex offender and was barred from working with children or entering online chatrooms that could facilitate contact with minors.
This case underscores the ongoing risks posed by online grooming and the importance of vigilance among parents, guardians, and young people themselves.
The authorities continue to emphasize the need for awareness and preventative measures to protect vulnerable minors from predators like David Blundell, whose actions have now led to significant legal consequences.
