August 2004 Man, 34, jailed for indecently assaulting young boys A 34-YEAR-OLD convicted of sexually assaulting two young boys was sentenced to six months in prison at Warrington Crown Court on Tuesday. Andrew Hancox, of no fixed abode but from the Warrington area, was found guilty on three separate counts of indecent assault to the youths, both under the age of 16, and placed on the sex offenders register for the next 10 years. He was also disqualified from working with children for life. The court heard how the man was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine during the incidents when he touched the boys inappropriately in December 2002 and twice in summer 2003. Hancox was convicted after a trial held earlier this year. Michael Scholes, defending, said his client was “not a high risk offender” who had ceased to use drugs and recommended he should not receive a custodial sentence. However, Judge David Hale was concerned that Hancox had not pleaded guilty and decided that a total sentence of 21 months in prison must be served. He said: “This man is still in denial over the incidents on which he was convicted and has put those boys through a distressing experience which they had to relive. “He must accept to remedy his conduct towards children.” After his release, Hancox must serve a further 15-month rehabilitation programme with the Probation Service.
