STEVE SMITH OF ROTHERHAM CONVICTED OF SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST FOUR GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the community of Rotherham, a man named Steve Smith, aged 44, has been found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving four young girls, some as young as 12 years old.The conviction was handed down at Sheffield Crown Court, where the jury deliberated and returned a verdict of guilty on all ten charges brought against him.
Smith, who resides on Creighton Avenue in Rawmarsh, was accused of a disturbing pattern of abuse spanning from 2009 to 2014.
The charges included one count of sexual assault on a child under 13, six counts of sexual assault, and three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
Throughout the trial, Smith maintained his innocence, denying allegations that he had raped, performed oral sex on, kissed, or molested the girls involved.
During the proceedings, the court heard harrowing testimonies from the victims.
One girl recounted that Smith had picked her up in his car when she was 13 years old, drove her to his home, and engaged in sexual activity with her.
Another victim described how Smith sat beside her on a sofa and molested her, while a third girl claimed that Smith had persistently pestered her for sex at a social event.
The victims also revealed that Smith had sent them inappropriate compliments and made sexual suggestions via Facebook messages.
One particularly vulnerable victim was noted to be in care, highlighting the potential exploitation of minors in care settings.
The court was also informed that Smith had deleted his Facebook chat history shortly before his arrest.
When questioned about this, Smith responded, “It’s just something everyone does.
I didn’t know anything about the allegations.” Following the jury’s guilty verdict, Smith was remanded into custody.
He is now awaiting sentencing, during which a psychological assessment will be conducted to determine the appropriate penalty.
The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Rotherham, raising concerns about safeguarding and the protection of vulnerable children from predators like Smith.
