ROTHERHAM BROTHERS ROBERT AND JOHN SANDERSON SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN ROTHERHAM
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Rotherham, two brothers, Robert and John Sanderson, aged 41 and 45 respectively, have been subjected to a rigorous three-year rehabilitation program after being found in possession of an alarming quantity of illegal and highly disturbing images. The case was heard at Sheffield Crown Court, where it was revealed that the brothers had downloaded over one million pornographic images collectively, encompassing a wide range of illegal content.
According to court reports, the Sanderson brothers possessed hundreds of thousands of images and videos that included not only legal adult pornography but also indecent images of children, extreme forms of pornography, and even images depicting bestiality.
The court was told that neither of the brothers had ever maintained romantic relationships, and they appeared to have lived in their own isolated world, disconnected from social interactions and normal relationships.
John Sanderson was described as a compulsive hoarder who had been downloading illicit material from the internet for approximately eight years.
His brother, Robert, was already a convicted sex offender and was under police surveillance at the time of the discovery.
The authorities’ intervention occurred when officers visited their residence located at Dearne View, Goldthorpe, Rotherham, to conduct routine checks on Robert.
During the visit, the officers uncovered a naturist video on Robert’s computer that featured naked children, which led to his immediate arrest.
Subsequently, the officers proceeded to John Sanderson’s room upstairs in the same residence.
When questioned, John handed over several discs, claiming they contained legal images.
However, upon inspection, the first image opened on one of the discs was an indecent image of a child, which resulted in his arrest as well.
The discovery of such material was a grave concern for law enforcement and the community alike.
Judge Peter Kelson QC addressed the court, emphasizing that the decision to enroll the brothers in a specialized rehabilitation program was in the best interest of society.
He described the Northumbria Group Programme as highly successful and expressed hope that it could potentially 'cure' them of their illegal and harmful addiction.
The judge’s comments underscored the importance of rehabilitation alongside punishment in cases involving such serious offenses.
