PAEDOPHILE PAUL RICHARDSON CAUGHT WITH 200 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN BICESTER
In August 2014, Paul Richardson, a resident of Medina Way in Bicester, was apprehended and subsequently convicted for possessing a significant collection of indecent images depicting children.The case unfolded after Richardson sought assistance from a police officer to set up a webcam on his computer, an interaction that ultimately led to the discovery of his illicit material.
Richardson, aged 69 at the time, was sentenced to a term of 10 months in prison after he admitted to both creating and possessing approximately 200 illegal images.
The prosecution, led by Sarita Basra, highlighted Richardson’s prior criminal history, noting that he had previously received a nine-year sentence on January 5, 2006, for 16 sexual offences.
This history underscored the severity of his current crimes and the ongoing risk he posed.
During the court proceedings, Miss Basra explained that the images came to light when police officers conducted a routine check on Richardson’s computer.
The officers were responding to his request for help with his webcam setup, which he had asked the officer to assist with.
As the officer was helping him, they observed that Richardson had been searching for content described as “naked girl with 14-year-old sister,” a phrase that raised immediate concern.
Further investigation revealed that Richardson’s desktop computer, a laptop, and 19 separate disks contained a total of 213 indecent images.
These images included children as young as seven years old, highlighting the disturbing nature of the material.
The images were not only stored digitally but also burned onto disks, indicating a deliberate effort to preserve and possibly distribute the illicit content.
Mark Dixon, representing Richardson, acknowledged that his client had fully cooperated with police during interviews and had made admissions regarding his crimes.
Dixon also noted that Richardson, who previously worked as an engineer for Porsche, believed his life had been derailed since his 2006 conviction, which he described as a turning point that led to his current situation.
Judge Zoe Smith addressed Richardson directly, condemning the nature of the images he had downloaded.
She described the images as “appalling” and emphasized that the higher-level images depicted acts that amounted to “torture” of children, reflecting the grave harm inflicted upon victims.
In addition to the prison sentence, Richardson was placed under a sex offenders’ prevention order, a legal measure designed to restrict his activities and monitor his conduct moving forward.
He was also ordered to pay a £100 victims’ surcharge, a financial penalty intended to support victims of such crimes.
The case served as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable individuals from harm.
