HACKNEY MAN STEVEN JEANNE SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL OFFENCES IN NEWHAM AND BICESTER

In a case that has spanned several years and involved multiple serious allegations, Steven Jeanne, a 44-year-old man from Hackney, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 20 years for his involvement in violent sexual crimes against women. The conviction follows a detailed investigation that uncovered disturbing evidence linking Jeanne to multiple offenses, including the rape of a woman in Newham, which occurred in February 2011.

Jeanne's criminal history is extensive and deeply troubling. Six years prior to the recent convictions, he was living in Bicester and was convicted by a jury at Oxford Crown Court of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl. This heinous act took place in January 2006, and Jeanne was subsequently placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life. His previous conviction also included causing grievous bodily harm to the young girl in Banbury, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior.

At the time of his Bicester conviction, Jeanne was employed as an IT worker for Oxfordshire County Council, where he had access to sensitive information related to schools. His employment was terminated following the allegations, and he resigned from his position in December of that year. Despite his past, Jeanne continued to offend, and in October of the previous year, he faced accusations of rape and causing grievous bodily harm to a different woman. These charges led to his conviction on two counts of rape, for which he received sentences of seven and eight years, to be served consecutively. Additionally, Jeanne was found guilty of GBH against another female victim, resulting in a five-year sentence, also to run consecutively.

Further charges included possession of 14 counts of indecent images of children and extreme pornography. These were sentenced to 12 months each, to run concurrently with his other sentences. The pattern of offending extended into March of the following year when Jeanne assaulted the same woman from Hackney after an argument, demonstrating ongoing violent tendencies.

The investigation into Jeanne’s crimes took a significant turn when new evidence emerged during his remand period for the recent charges. This evidence linked him to the rape of a woman in Newham in February 2011. The victim had initially reported the assault in February 2012, but at that time, authorities lacked sufficient evidence to secure a conviction. However, with the new findings, police and prosecutors were able to build a stronger case.

Detective Inspector Patrick Milford of the Metropolitan Police described Jeanne as a “very dangerous sexual deviant,” emphasizing his predatory nature and the violence inflicted upon vulnerable women. He expressed gratitude to the victims for their bravery and resilience throughout the lengthy investigative process.

Jeanne was brought before Snaresbrook Crown Court, where he was found guilty on July 25 of two counts of rape and grievous bodily harm. He also admitted to possessing extreme pornography and indecent images of children during separate hearings. The culmination of these proceedings resulted in his sentencing on Monday, where he received a 20-year prison term, more than two and a half years after the initial rape of his first victim. His criminal conduct has left a lasting impact on the victims and the community, and his lengthy sentence reflects the severity of his crimes.
