BICESTER DIVING CLUB CHAIRMAN STEVEN ALLPORT JAILED FOR SEX WITH 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL NEAR HER BIRTHDAY

In April 2014, Steven Allport, the former chairman of a diving club based in Bicester, was sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of engaging in sexual activities with a minor.

The incident involved a 15-year-old girl, with the offense occurring just one day before her 16th birthday, highlighting the gravity of the case and the breach of trust involved.

Prosecutor Walton Hornsby outlined the details of the case, revealing that Allport, aged 43 and a resident of Bicester, had initiated a relationship with the girl in 2011 when she was only 15 years old.

The relationship was conducted through digital communication platforms, specifically Facebook and Skype, where Allport, who was married and a father of two, encouraged the girl to participate in sexual activities via webcam.

This conduct demonstrated a pattern of grooming and manipulation, which ultimately led to the sexual encounter that took place on the eve of her 16th birthday.

Allport’s role as chairman of the Bicester Sub-Aqua Club and his involvement in a data recovery business were highlighted during the court proceedings.

Despite his professional background, his actions betrayed a significant breach of ethical conduct and trust, especially considering his position within the community.

Defense lawyer Jonathan Woodcock acknowledged that Allport had developed what he described as a “loving, affectionate” relationship with the girl.

However, he also conceded that the relationship was inappropriate and that Allport now recognized the wrongfulness of his actions.

Woodcock emphasized that his client had led a life attempting to do his best but was vulnerable during a period of personal crisis, which contributed to his poor judgment.

Throughout the court process, Allport’s wife stood by his side, offering her support despite the serious allegations and conviction.

The judge, Patrick Eccles, addressed the court and delivered a stern warning about the nature of the offense.

He stated, “The plain fact is you ended up taking advantage of a vulnerable young teenager for whom this was her first sexual relationship.” In addition to the two-year jail sentence, Judge Eccles ordered Allport to remain on the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years, reflecting the seriousness of his misconduct and the potential risk posed to the community.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding minors and the consequences faced by those who abuse positions of trust for personal gratification.
