OSCAR FITZGERALD SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR RAPE OF 12-YEAR-OLD IN SUFFOLK
In a recent and disturbing case that has shocked the Suffolk community, Oscar Fitzgerald, a 26-year-old man from Lowestoft, has been sentenced to serve eight years in prison for the heinous crime of raping a 12-year-old girl.The incident unfolded after Fitzgerald, known to the authorities as a dangerous sexual offender, engaged in online grooming and subsequently arranged to meet his young victim in person.
The girl, whose age was just 12, had been targeted by Fitzgerald on social media.
Recognizing the danger, Fitzgerald deliberately contacted her on the very day she went missing in September.
He then arranged a meeting and drove her to his residence, which was located on Church Road in Lowestoft.
Once there, Fitzgerald took her upstairs and committed the assault despite her protests and pleas for him to stop.
The young girl later managed to send a text message to her mother, informing her that she was walking home after being dropped off at a bus stop.
The girl’s mother became alarmed when she reported her daughter missing, prompting police to initiate immediate searches across the area.
Thanks to the girl’s quick thinking and detailed account, law enforcement officials were able to identify and locate Fitzgerald.
The girl had provided police with sufficient information—her description of Fitzgerald, the color of his vehicle, his first name, and details about his two-bedroom house—leading to his arrest at his home shortly thereafter.
Con Detective Stephen Clarke of Suffolk police praised the bravery of the young victim, emphasizing that her prompt and detailed report was instrumental in bringing Fitzgerald to justice.
"We want to commend the courage of the victim," he said, acknowledging that her articulate account allowed officers to act swiftly and effectively.
"It was this prompt action that led officers to identify and detain Fitzgerald." Fitzgerald appeared in Norwich Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of raping a girl under the age of 13.
His guilty plea and the evidence presented in court highlighted the extent of his predatory behavior.
As a result, Fitzgerald has been officially registered as a sex offender indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
